2024 Paris Olympics

Jess Fox wins GOLD in C1 canoeing. Even after being inflicted with a two second penalty. She defends her title. And wins a second for 2024 (K1). Wow.

Matt Ebden and John Peers have secured Australia’s 12th gold medal of the Paris Olympics with a superb comeback win over American pair Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in the men’s doubles final.

The Aussies split the first two sets 6-7 7-6 before winning the super tiebreaker 10-8.

The win lifted Australia into second on the Paris medal tally, only one behind China.
It is the first time since the Woodies in 1996 that Australia has won gold in the men’s doubles.

It sure was. With that lead. We had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t sink the baskets. Serbia definitely had the height and reach.

Delighted with Trew 💛💚

Most gold or most medals is a very interesting debate on bragging ideology but I feel the whole "medal tally" thing is not in the spirit of the Games at all. Of course "big" nations will dominate either way.

I believe that recognising effort should be pro-rated using population and the number of qualifying athletes that participate is fairer ... then another level of metrics across all actual placings during the Games can sort out the big-noting.

Just being an Olympian is amazing and that you are the best of your nation.

I think we definitely slipped into a GOLD GOLD GOLD attitude in the 00s. London and Rio were a wake up call. GB also cut into a few of our traditional medal hotspots. Like cycling and sailing.

Also it's the attitude and road travelled by these athletes. Part time jobs, pasting together grants, family support. It's all such an epic story.
