2024 Season General Discussion Thread

Could be some roster movement up the M1 for sure

I respect how ruthless they are with the decision to sack Kevvie. Says a lot about their expectations and standards as a club, especially when they’ve got such a ridiculously stacked roster + all the resources in the world. Grossly underachieving all things considered.

Wondering if Kini doesn’t qualify for rookie of the year I just see he hasn’t made the shortlist for the rlpa rookie of the year I thought he would be in the mix with Galvin and fualogo

So anyway Melbourne have just made the GF and have every reason to be back in the sheds beginning recovery, review and getting their heads together for the week ahead…..HOWEVER they have stayed out on the ground doing photos and autographs way longer than our blokes did after the completion of the so called members round.

For those of you at the club that read the forum.
Nowhere near good enough.
GC fans are as suffering and resilient as it gets.

In other words….Show Some Goddam Respect.

Interesting. Especially under the Kiwi great, Daryl Halligan. Who must have also had great influence over the great Bulldog, Hazem El Masri. Actually their careers overlapped.

Jahrome Hughes 2024 Dally M Medallist.

Exceptional career from him, a credit to his work ethic and determination. A legend of NZ League.

Titans-wise, I will say, as someone who watched Hughes play for our Under-20s team back in the early-2010s, and with zero disrespect to Jahrome at all... Craig Bellamy turning him into the best halfback in the game IMO is easily his best work as a coach. If you went back to 2013 and told me he would be the best player in the game 10 years later I just wouldn't have believed it. Unreal.

Fair points but it has to be put down as another big Titans L in player development. When are we going to squeeze more juice out of an orange than expected for once?

Don’t really think it’s a huge L for our development with Jahrome tbh. If it is, then it’s a bigger L for the Cowboys and there was a period where every single club in the NRL ignored him while he languished in Cup uncontracted anywhere. For some perspective, him turning into a Dally M 7 is similar to us right now saying Jaylan De Groot will be a Dally M 7 by the end of his career.

He’s an awesome story but he had to go through the process he did to get where he is at the moment. Melb was the perfect and probably only spot for him to progress into what he is IMO.

Really happy for him

Couldn't agree more with HS above^,

We've actually had way more talented juniors come through than Hughes and just straight up not make it, sometimes that's just how it goes, for Hughes, his career outcome for his natural talent is basically a 1 in 1000, he's truly remarkable, and Craig Bellamy is a freakin' Wizard. Furthermore, the career of Jahrome should be a tale for any player manager whose client is deciding between Melbourne and other clubs, it's that amazing.

Back in NQ circa-2016, before we signed Jarryd Hayne, to my knowledge, Jahrome was basically offered the 1 jersey here, obviously Melbourne wanted him badly aswell, but i'm glad for his sake he decided to spurn the chance to come back home and head down for his apprenticeship under Slater-Munster-Cronk-Bellamy, he would not be where he is today had he made the decision for likely a more guaranteed spot + bigger coin here. Sliding doors moment actually.

I really don’t get the Lofi love. He’s fun to watch but he’s so bad at anything other than finishing. Nowhere near ready for rep honours and I’m worried it’ll go to his head.

So it seems like we all agree we've been a joke of a club and a rabble for as long as anyone can remember. Some of us would even like to shake those tags.
