2024 Squad, Signings and Rumours Thread

Wouldn't Haas be getting most of that? Pahulu, Jojo and others are coming off as well who need upgrades probably.

Liu isn't in our best 17 anymore, Des barely plays him off the bench.

@HS if you have a moment could you up-date the squad roster on Page 1 of this thread please mate

So from the current list we lose:

Aaron Slop
Isaac Liu
Joe Stimson
Tom Weaver
Hopefully Ken Maumalo though he’s contracted for 2025

Then we gain Carter Gordon so 26/30

Who’s being upgraded from dev to top 30 for 2025?

JAW at least for now as well, Don't want to lose him but I think Haas took the spot.

Ryder, Liyou, Nikotemo and Hau and JDGs contracts have I think been taken up for 2025 which is apparently top 30s. Not 100% on Hau but it's listed like JDG and someone here mentioned his CO was taken up. They might switch a couple of these around like last year but right now I think this is it.

I think Mdrew confirmed Stephenson and Bai 100% have development deals, Kumbamong signed for 25-26 so maybe him as well.

I have 31 in the top 30 including Maumalo right now who like you said, I'm guessing will be gone.

Just as internal LoT trivia and as CowB mentioned, it is on Page 4 of this thread Oct 14 that the debate about Fifita's pre-season weight began ... not in the media.

Interesting to hear his views. On Gordon's short and long kicking game. And ability to throw a long pass.

I liked how he spoke about the differences between league and union with the distance of the defensive line coming at you.

Quade's dodgy New York Times cap is a bit distracting.

One issue that may happen is that players will come to league, get a profile and then maybe bargain union/league off their increased profile.

I'm excited to hear how Cooper talks about potentially opening up a path for more union players to come over. Their eyes will be keenly fixed on Carter's time at the Titans. And we could use some more talent in the NRL with new teams coming soon.

Could you imagine if Alick did that in a Titans game. I think there'd be genuine concerns for his health with Des hahahahaha

That was filthy from Ngamanu, complete ankle breaker.

Defence key to Campbell's rise at six

Titans five-eighth Jayden Campbell has credited the work on his defence as a big catalyst for his seamless transition to the playmaking position.

The former fullback showcased his class and experience in his milestone 50th NRL appearance, guiding his side to a 24-16 win over Parramatta – the first time securing the win against the western Sydney side since 2018.

Effective with and without the ball, the 24-year-old is going from strength-to-strength each week as he makes the five-eighth role his own.

After breaking multiple club records in Gold Coast’s Round 16 win over the Warriors - including slotting 11 out of 11 conversions - Campbell continued his own streak converting four from four against the Eels.

Unsurprisingly, his half century saw a continuation of high-class performances with the ball that have become an integral part of his game, as Campbell had three try assists and a role in the fourth off the back of a strong defensive shot on Jake Tago.
Improving his defence has been a goal for the young star over the last two years, with Campbell connecting his recent success to the support and guidance from Titans coaching staff.

"It hasn’t just been the last 12 months, it’s been the last two years with Brett White coming in as our assistant coach last year," Campbell said post-match.

"I knew myself that defence was an area of improvement, and Whitey last year really helped me with my tackle technique.
"Des is a really big defensive coach as well, so I really wanted to improve over the last two years.

"I just feel I’ve put the work in and it’s nice to reap the rewards, but I’ve still got a lot of work to do though but starting to tackle a lot more."

Leading from the front, Campbell was awarded Macca’s player of the match after his performance against the Eels, despite still carrying a hand injury picked up in Round 16.

"I’ve got plates and screws in there holding it together so hopefully it holds it together for the next few weeks," Campbell said.

'Like a fine wine': No finish line for Foran after Titans extension

Kieran Foran has refused to rule out 2025 will be his last in the NRL, with the Titans the only club on his mind when the decision came to extend his illustrious career into an impressive 17th season.

After the Gold Coast's important 24-16 win over the Eels on Saturday, the Titans sheds were buzzing with excitement as the side continued to consolidate their late season charge - including from the veteran playmaker who happened to also celebrate his 34th birthday with the two competition points.

In his 295th career appearance, Foran exhibited another masterclass performance, proving his decision to re-sign for 2025 season earlier that week was an expert move.

As he prepares to visit his old stomping ground where he began his first grade journey in 2009 when he faces the Sea Eagles on Sunday, the Titans No. 7 believes he has found his long-term home on the Gold Coast.

"I knew this was the only place I wanted to continue to keep playing footy at," Foran said after the Eels victory.

"I am not going to put an end point on it. If I’m playing good enough footy and my body is feeling good enough, I’ll keep playing till it eventually breaks on me and I can’t keep up.

"I won’t put a finish time on it I’ll just keep holding myself to that standard and upwards from here onwards.

"It [future seasons] will be at the Titans; I am not interested in going anywhere else.

"I am fully invested into what we are building here, and this is where it’s going to be for me.

"This is where I want success and I will stop at nothing to get it here.

I believe we can do it here and this is where it’s at."

Despite being described as a 'fossil' by his teammates, Foran isn't letting his veteran status hold him back, instead lifting in all areas of his gameplay – including his defence which has seen his strength on his own goal line be pivotal in multiple try-saving tackles.

"At the end of the day, you have to be able to make those tackles in this game," he said.

"But physically, I feel good enough and I’m able to keep up with this current crop of athletes.

"They’re a pretty explosive bunch and they’re pushing me to keep my body stronger and get fitter each week.

"I am enjoying my footy, I’m loving it and being a leader and I am enjoying helping the boys grow and develop their footy for hopefully many more years to come."

With three wins on the trot behind them, the cohesion amongst the side is evident in their defensive consistency and confidence in attack.

"It’s nice to build some cohesion on the back-to-back wins now," Foran said.

"It’s important as a club that we start becoming consistent.

"I think for a long time we’ve talked about potential, and we’ve been able to play some exciting footy... but at the end of the day, if you want to be there at the right end of the season you need to be playing consistent footy.

"That’s our main focus and goal at the moment.

"We’re going to go full board this year and see what we can make of it, we haven’t given up on playing finals.

"Next year isn’t even something we’ve thought about yet, we’re full immersed in what we can achieve this year."

The Gold Coast will travel to 4 Pines Park on Sunday to face Manly in another must-win game to keep their finals hopes alive and kicking.

A bit of a nothing article from the unreliable Mole but it makes sense..

ODD MAN OUT IN TITANS HALVES HEADACHE

Don't be surprised if talented Titans halfback Tanah Boyd is on the move over the summer.

Boyd has started only eight games this season and appears to be out of favour with the club. He is contracted until the end of 2025 but has been the subject of some interest from rival clubs.

At 23, Boyd is still learning the finer points of playmaking but is a tough kid who puts his body on the line for his team.

Several NRL clubs are struggling for a No.7 and could have a chat with the Titans at season's end about a possible switch.

Tom Weaver too

I can definitely see Boyd moving on. Or even Super League (just personal speculation).

As a rugby league fan, I do like to see people thrive on the field. Even if it’s not in our colours.

For someone that got talked up for making our players better, Has anyone actually gotten better under Des besides Clark who I think always had this in him and Haas? It feels like we're still seeing the same issues with most of the starters that have been there for years now.

Jojo
Foz
JC as a 5/8
Randall arguably
Verrills playing better
Keano
Alick’s game looks more rounded out
Haas

The rest are in the injury ward or are called Brian Kelly and Alofiana Khan-Pereira. Fermor coming off an ACL a tough measure. Fifita is Fifita. Etc.

Just my opinion of course

I reckon you could say any NRL player always had it in them though. They’re a pro footballer haha. Every one of these guys dominated junior and development grades one way or another.
