2024 Squad, Signings and Rumours Thread

You wouldn’t consider Hunt/Foz as a transition period to mentor Zane and ease him into first grade?
If we're serious about contending, no. Unless we can convince either Hunt or Foz to retire and be in an advisory role, no. I do not want two 35-year-old halves on the books. One is enough.

Hypothetical not just for yourself but the forum as a whole; Let's say we do get Hunt in to mentor Zane and the others alongside Foz for next season. That still does not fix our spine issue. Foz and Hunt retire into the sunset, and we'll still be left without a set spine due to attitude and discipline from players who think they're world beaters. And I will call it right now, as soon as Zane puts together a few weak performances (Not saying he will 110%, but rugby league is a cruel game) a fair amount of people will come for his head. As they did with Weaver, and Sexton, and Boyd, Fogs, and Taylor, and Elgey, etc. I would much rather him develop at his own pace and be ready when he proves himself to be ready, rather than throw him to the wolves and put immense pressure on him. Same with Ryder too. We should be looking at recruiting actual halves coaches to get their gears grinding, not "potentially" sign Ben Hunt to mentor him for a season before he retires.

And that is not me saying I do not believe in the kid either. He has talent. Anyone who makes the NRL has proven that they have talent for the game. But we will continue this endless cycle of "Superstar Teen to debut for Titans" to "Teen Half dropped due to poor performances" all because they were played before they were ready for first grade. Have to think of the kid's mental health too. He will absolutely be ready in due time, but for the love of all that is holy, let it be at a normal, genuine development pace.

Foz having ankle reconstruction surgery this Friday and will be out of action for 3 months. That puts him coming back for pre season training after the new year. Not ideal.

Not gonna lie I'm kinda happy about this, as good as Foz has been for us I'm a bit concerned about him starting for us next year and not losing his place unless he gets injured. He has been great but the sooner we prepare for the future the better, if this means Gordon gets reps at 7 in pre-season or they give JC a crack there, it could help bring their development along quicker and get them into the starting jersey early in the season.

What do you think HS and Mdrew? Does Oskar deserve another Dev deal? I remember Sikahele was going well last year but how do they compare now?

Are we resigning Ryder?

Honestly no but that’s just my opinion. I think Oskar a better 9 than Vaka. But you’re comparing 2 cup players.

He’s signed for ‘25 already

Does anyone know each assistant coaches direct duty? I'm confused about the set up. One thing I do know is more support staff the better, but does Des give his support staff responsibility? I am so in the dark about what happens behind the scenes and I'm sure everyone else is aswell.

I was speaking to Michael Monaghan at the members forum a couple of months back and he said Des makes them watch hours of video in respect of their respective roles which is to raise their accountability. He said he has done more video work than he ever has but is enjoying Des expectations.

Additionally, Brian Kelly’s 2024 season:

He also has the 4th most missed tackles in the entire NRL. Behind 3 hookers, who you’d expect to have significantly more per game with the volume of attempted.

He has the 9th most errors in the entire NRL. Behind a bunch of wingers who you’d expect to have the most errors with high ball contests, attempted finishes etc.

He also has the 9th most handling errors. A more specific version of errors? Lol

He’s also 9th amongst the entire NRL for penalties conceded.

We aren’t imagining it fellas

Can you do a PowerPoint presentation on this for Des and the players, HS? Maybe he doesn't know?

There was a lot of talk about Latrell earlier this season getting special treatment and that being the sole reason for Souths misfortune. I didn't think it had any legs. However, a player with those stats HS mentioned getting in the side each week, winning Players' Player, ranked third best player at the club and spoken of fondly by his coach ("BK had a great season" etc) - 4 CORNERS, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

Thinking of starting a band called Brian Explosion.
