2025 Season General Discussion

Sounds like he’s got a good idea who he wants at fullback too
He basically admitted that Kini has pushed out AJ and JC and after the Test series its hard to disagree.

I wonder if Lehi Hopoate will also displace Turbo at Manly this year. The test series highlighted both of these boys have big futures and are ready now.

Sing out if anyone wants names. A lot of our young/emerging blokes featuring in there.

Taylan must be doing the entire block right up until Xmas. Good experience and I expect he’ll roll onto Dev end of ‘25.

On a side note it’s just really cool seeing so many of our 18s junior system guys now mixing it up at NRL pre season, with other guys who have progressed through our system in previous years. For some of them this pre season will be the pinnacle but it’s pretty special seeing multiple different age groups of juniors coming together on the field.

Guessing that is Hawaiki Morrison with Kumbamong and Kama?? Couldn't find any footage on him but that looks like him from photos.

Looks like Ryder playing at 9 which is interesting but probably means nothing at this stage in pre season.

Yep that’s Hawaiki. Have just put 2 and 2 together, his mum is a somewhat recognisable media personality to those in NZ. Has hosted a few shows and currently works in radio. Stacey Morrison is her name.

Can’t find a single droplet of footage of Hawaiki playing for Kings College but he’ll turn out for Tweed MM next year so I’m interested to see how he goes. Could be him and (the other) Tino in the centres.

Ikin was on Sen and talked about the youth comp, A big point is to not to have it on tv or and is seen much more as a development thing and for QLD teams to just keep that age group in QLD instead of going to NSW for opportunities, Going to be held at small grounds and is scheduled loosely for 2026/27 although like Mdrew mentioned we're signing kids for sooner then that.

They want to keep it as close to Flegg/HDC as possible and nothing like the NYC.

Wonder how they plan on funding it then without any broadcast dollars

Does that mean we only have 4 teams in QLD?

QRL came to an agreement for a bunch of money from the ARL avoiding the court case, Maybe something out of that because he mentioned about keeping QLD kids up here being a big reason to get the 21s back, It just cost way to much to have the HDC. It's why they don't want to have it at NRL stadiums games due to the costs opening up early and no one really rocking up.

He pushed back pretty heavily whenever Rogers and Sattler talked about it being a reserve grade game or being involved with NRL match days or having much of a profile and kept saying it's got to be way closer to Flegg currently. Apparently every club feels that way as well but I'm sure Penguin man and Abdo feel a bit different, Probably only see it through gambling money and content. He also said the NRLW is way more likely to be the reserve game when we get to more games there.

Thanks mate

I do wonder how they’re going to manage quality control. Even the Flegg comp is diluted for talent because most players who are good enough just go to cup. It’s purposeful enough down there because there’s so many teams. I guess i’m skeptical but curious if we can replicate it in QLD.

We were full steam ahead on a Flegg team for 2025. Not sure if this changes that plan but I’m guessing it does.

Fully agree and he didn't seem overly keen on the whole thing or sell it that much , Even talked about the stats being 3% who come from HDC/Flegg. It sounded like it was a way to even the field with everyone else who has a flegg team roster wise and keep kids in QLD, Anytime Rogers and Sattler tried to make it into a bigger thing, He pretty quickly shut it down and went against them.

It wouldn't shock me if they just try and do it without much fanfare and sneak it in kind and do something like 4 QLD teams join Flegg. It was on one of the bye round tables and the Manly ceo said it wasn't happening while Flannagan said it was haha.
