2025 Season General Discussion

So it’s not a new injury, it is the recovery is a lot slower than expected.
However we saw him in that photo at the Fifita family extras sessions.
We might need the Titans Family to give us some anecdotal information.
Have any of you in the forum gone down to training?
If so, what can you recall of David’s participation or non-participation please?

Largely explains his poor form at the back half of the season but as has been discussed previously, he's looking pretty fit at least weight-wise, so he hasn't been leading the buffet queue. At this stage I am giving him a fair bit of credit for soldiering on and will wait to see how he emerges from pre-season.

There’s a bit of a sniff of either fake news or overly exaggerated news here and it’s just been then picked up by the echo chamber.

Sadly, as Dave ages he'll find himself at the end of some of these random injuries, he's battling his genetics as is, which, albeit have supplied him with monstrous fast-twitch fibres, elite footwork and acceleration at his size, along with 99th percentile upper body power.. it's also sadly given him a rough obesity gene which will shortly be very difficult to deal with if it isn't already as far as an increase in tissue/density on his joints/tendons .. Even just watch his 18/19 yo footage compared to now, still an explosive powerhouse today but nothing like what he was as a rook/sophomore. Will be something to keep an eye on and if the club is smart they'd already be preparing to manage this.

One of my wife's boyfriends Ioane actually has a similar problem except he's a 6'5", 110kg 6% bf American Samoan gentleman with exceptional looks ha ha!

Hope so

It’s his D I’m most concerned about
Sami defence as a centre is diabolical with his decision making and positioning worse than BK. Centre is the hardest position on the field to defend and he has never defended well in that position despite his NRL experience and has been found wanting countless times when used in that position. He is either a winger or not at all.

Des doesn't seen to give a shit about the centres hahaha.

The only reason I can somewhat understand Sami and no Jojo or some other option is due to Stephenson coming but that's not really an excuse.

I think the Jojo thing is moreso just because he’s so good on the wing

Think if he keeps improving on the trajectory he was last year he’ll be firmly in frame for origin

Des Hasler is contemplating a bombshell move that will see Jayden Campbell play halfback for the Gold Coast Titans and Kieran Foran transformed into a ball-playing bench weapon.

In a major pre-season development on the Gold Coast, Hasler is set to roll the dice in the 2025 NRL Premiership and unleash a left-field halves pairing in Campbell and Maroons star AJ Brimson.

With Foran on the comeback from ankle surgery, Campbell and Brimson have been training in the halves together and are on track to be Gold Coast’s first-choice playmaking combination.

Wallabies convert Carter Gordon is another prospect, but may have to bide his time in reserve grade learning the intricacies of rugby league before he is thrown into the NRL.

With Campbell and Brimson starting in the halves, Foran could be utilised from the bench as a ball-playing middle.

Foran, 34, underwent an ankle reconstruction in September and has not yet been able to join the Titans in full training.

The 303-game veteran is aiming to be fit for next month’s trials, however will have had limited time training with the team.

When he does return, Foran is expected to be utilised from the bench in a ‘link-man’ role that has become more popular in recent years.

Kiwis livewire Keano Kini will start the season at fullback following his sensational 2024 campaign which saw him crowned Gold Coast’s player of the year.

Foran’s absence has opened the door for a new halves pairing on the Gold Coast and Hasler has taken a punt on Campbell and Brimson.

With Brimson plagued by injuries last year, the Titans looked their most dangerous with Campbell at five-eighth alongside halfback Foran and Kini at fullback.

Despite being most comfortable at fullback, Campbell could now be entrusted with the important No. 7 duties on the right side as Hasler looks for a way to get his best players on the park.

Brimson also favours the No.1 jersey, but Kini’s rise has seen the former Queensland Origin representative shifted around the field after he was re-signed until the end of 2030.

The left-footed Brimson will be given another crack at five-eighth on the left side of the field.

The Titans will kick off their pre-season campaign against the Broncos in Toowoomba on February 16, with Hasler expected to test some combinations.

A full strength team will then be rolled out for the final trial against the Dolphins at Redcliffe on February 22, which could see Brimson and Campbell alongside each other for the first time.

Gordon is also expected to feature in the trials along with 2024 schoolboys sensation Zane Harrison.

After recording a third straight bottom four finish last year, the Titans have a bye in the first round of the 2025 NRL season before opening their campaign against the Bulldogs at Belmore on March 16.

I'm ok with it because there aren't too many options but I have the gut feeling that Harrison and CG reflect the requisite skillsets a lot better.
