2025 Season General Discussion

Some Key points from this:
  • Initially felt frustrated about having a bye in Round 1 but now sees it as a positive, given the squad’s injuries we had last year, and is fine starting a week later.
  • He confirmed that the Tino documentary will be a three-part series, with plans to release it over the next week and a half before the first trial. Personally, I’m excited to see something like this again. Building Titans was a great watch a few years ago.
  • He highlighted the impact RCG will have on the squad, particularly in helping Tino develop as a leader and elevate his performance.
  • There's apparently no injury concerns within the squad, which is interesting considering the reports about RCG’s shoulder. Still, it’s great to hear that the team is supposedly at full health.
  • He spoke about the positive cultural shift under Des, emphasising the consistency he has brought and being able to keep the same coaching staff on board. He also praised the team’s commitment to improve, in particular to defence (I will believe it when I see it).
  • When asked about the halves situation, he mentioned that Des is working on a rotation to ensure the team is prepared in case of injuries, and is having AJ, JC, Kini, Foz & CG all in different combinations with one another (no mention of Zane).
  • Regarding player names on jerseys, he personally supports the idea but acknowledged commercial challenges from a club standpoint.

Pack mentality has Moeaki excited for new season

Titans prop Moeaki Fotuaika says he's not sure exactly how his coach will rotate his forwards in 2025, but says the quality of the troops available has him excited for what's to come this year.

The Titans welcome back skipper Tino Fa'asuamaleaui from injury, while Reagan Campbell-Gillard joins the Gold Coast pack this season.

Fotuaika says having the two Origin-standard middles should help his side get on the front foot in games.
Both players (Fa'asuamaleaui and Campbell-Gillard) are returning from injury, meaning their pre-season time with the main squad has been limited.
Fotuaika says he's confident that the pack will quickly click once all are once again available for selection.
"It's been a bit hard this pre-season with Tino coming through his rehab and big Reg (Reagan Campbell-Gillard) doing his shoulder," Fotuaika said.
"Once those boys come back we will slowly get into our groove.
"I'm sure once we do come together it (on-field connection) will come naturally."
Fotuaika says the presence of his returning Captain (Fa'asuamaleaui) is already making a difference to the side.
"Just having him here, having his presence on the field it makes a big difference.
"He makes us all more comfortable out there.
"He's getting through his rehab stuff but obviously it'll be up to Dessie (Hasler) and the rehab crew to sort out (when he plays).
"I guess we will find out come trials time what he (Hasler) wants to do with the rotation.
"Whether I come off the bench or I'm starting, the forwards that we've got there it's still good in itself."
After a tough pre-season, Fotuaika says he is ready to hit the field when the Titans play their first trial fixture against the Broncos in Toowoomba on 16th February.
"This is my eighth pre-season and you just get used to the hard training and find a way to get through it," he said.
"I'm experienced, so I know when to work hard and when to take my rest (to get through a pre-season).

"I'm looking forward to getting out to Toowoomba, my wife is from there.
"It will be good to come up against our brothers from up the road (Broncos) ... it will be good to get a first hit-out against them.
"For us we are not looking at getting one over them, it's about working on our combos and getting the cobwebs out.
"You can train as much as you want and do all of the running and wrestle sessions, but once you get out on the field it is a lot different."

Wrong Mo, there aren't any "brothers" up the M1, only the soft coq'd 'Ponies.
