What’s so exciting about the spine is they all have that FB instinct of floating around the ball so any time there is a half opportunity we should have at least one of them there in support, if not all 3 like we saw on both of Brimmo’s tries. JC also looks like he has bulked up but still has his speed, they both looked electric in support. Early days and there are bound to be some challenges too but damn it’s exciting. A completely different performance to last week. Why did we do that last week? Posession is a massive factor IMO. When we have it, we can play but when we don't that'll be the test. The Dolphins attack didn't really test us last night.
It's great to see improvement on the edges and Sami so far is making a liar out of me. Keep it up Phil - I'm loving it!
Hard to tell how much edge Klese played last night but he looked much better in the middle. I hope he stays there but are we better off with a bigger middle when we're carrying Randy (as a back up 9)? Verrils was heaps better last night but I still like Randy at 9 sometimes, depending on the game and opposition forward pack. He looked cooked towards the end of last season but he did so much for us. I'm now not sure about him as a lock. His running isn't as effective as a bigger middle and as a result his pass isn't as threatening. The pass works better from 13 when the defence is worried about a run. I'm not sure we'll get that with Randy. I have to have him in the 17 though. Just love his grit. He might be our best 14 for now.
Great to see DF play the ball quickly but we'll still need more from him.
Agree with HS' comments on our OBs. Fitz looks like a player but not there yet and Tony hasn't shone like I had hoped. BK is still a worry for me and I hope CG can come back from injury and slot into BK's spot asap. Jojo is fast becoming one of my top five favourites and is a threat on the wing already but could still be a better option at centre than BK in the meantime if we need him there. Tony, Fitz or even JDG could do a job for us on the right wing at a stretch if Jojo had to move. Hopefully, Phil can keep tidy. For now, I think they all keep their spots.

Huge improvement but I am not getting overhyped. I still think we will have a lot of teething problems especially in the halves. In a matter of one week we all went from the dog house to the penthouse but I think the reality is somewhere in the middle. I really enjoyed yesterday but want to curb my optimism. Been burn't too many times so believing for the best but know that as a titans fan it can turn from great to horrible in quick succession. Thought JC, Kini and AJ were great yesterday and also Pahulu ran with some real aggression for the short time he was on there.

The two critical issues are still unanswered and they are: behind the dash and flash do we have (a) a 6 and/or 7 who can run the team and (b) a 1 who can manage the team’s defensive system. I feel the green shoots are there but it’s a work in progress.

Yep remember when post after post was wasted discussing how to fit in CG, Foz, JC, KK and AJ and I used to say it will be very rare you’d have them all available.

I get your point Bods. And you’re not necessarily wrong at all. Depth matters.
But it’s still pretty important to know who our starting lineup is when they’re all healthy. Depth charts exist only because players are ahead of others. And I wouldn’t say the posts were wasted at all - was some really good discussion.
If we get to finals, have all available, and have to pick the best side to go out there and win. Who are you picking in those positions?
Another scenario - we have got salary cap constraints and have to decide who to let go of and who to keep. Well, you’ve got to prioritise the best guys likely for your starting 13 right?
All hypothetical of course, but so are injuries until they happen. Just offering a different perspective.

I thought it was night and day versus our previous preseason game. Held our lines well when we needed, fantastic off-loads, and just in general, better all around play.
I think the key this season will be to start strong like we did in this one and not lose focus.
Are we the most talented in the league? No. But can we do better than we did last season in the table? Absolutely.

Yea I really was surprised with the turn around. I'm taking it for what it is. But I was hoping for a solid turn around with some progress in key areas. But that game was an abundance of riches and joy. Most pleasing to me was to see the support play, the off-loads and improved individual defensive efforts. Actually being a threat with the ball and having that excitement of the unknown on the 5th play when we put a kick on that may actually pay off. Like a roulette wheel spin. That feeling has been fleeting to me last year. So I can only imagine how unphased opposition players must be. But now we have them in a few minds.
I hope it continues. I'm going to watch the game again as soon as I get some time.
