Round 10: TITANS vs COWBOYS (2024)

Feeling for Harley big time, hope he has a quick recovery and thank Christ he doesn’t need a facial reconstruction... the flip side is that Aaron Schoupp has a massive, massive opportunity to cement an NRL spot.

At the game in the Cowboys section, that was as good as it gets, They were silent for all the first half and got up the again where it was for sure sketchy being a Titans fan hahahaha. The boys were always trying their heart out and the difference from the Dolphins game I was at is insane, The team looks so much better in every thing they do especially defence. That last attacking set had holes clenched hahahaha.

This group is someone the fanbase will embrace, that effort at the end and holding them out was awesome, We've had the deserved label as chokers, this was a great way to win at home, the crowd was awesome.

Bloody gutsy effort from the boys. That's all we have ever asked for is some bloody effort. Those tries conceded at the end I'll put the blame on injuries and injuries only. I was thoroughly impressed by everybodies performance. Crowd, mainly Titans fans was into it (except for when Fifita when over.. Could've honestly heard a pin drop in my opinion). As soon as feldt goes over in the corner to get within 2 the whole consensus was "Not again" but with a lot of C bombs and f bombs. And as soon as Verrills makes that try saver, the crowd went bloody ballistic. Absolutely proud of that one.

Just re-watching the last bit, Vossy wasn't lying about the blind folds especially for me hahahhaa. Pahulus tackle on Dearden was ridiculous as well, He's special and Des is putting him in big game situations lately and he's doing so well.

Kini also looks so much further up to the job, He's going to fine.

Verrills you m'fer, he's getting back to form. Also BKs run was insane in the last set.

I also thought Wyatt Raymond refereed well. The difference between the best and worst refs in the competition is staggering.

Credit where it's due for a good performance

I don’t want to crash the party but for all the hype Kini was again our least contributor today. Imo he will be better for the run but was often out of position in defence and that dummy/step routine is not fooling anyone. He is courageous and proactive, contested some kicks but not all and tried his heart out. Very very much a work in progress.

He had the most carries in the entire team T

He’s a work in progress for sure but I’m not sure least contributor is a fair assessment today

Gotta disagree Titanic respectfully, His contribution was honestly way different to his last ones in this game and it's only a matter of time till it happens but he did all the small things right for the first time I've seen live, He looked so much better at organising the line and everything else. That was the first time I've 100% seen the hype and he did nothing special.

He still needs to get stronger but he was so much more effective in his defence and positioning then the previous games in the first 3. Way further ahead then his first stint.
His line defence and leadership yelling at players was so different to his previous games It legit was like watching a different player and it's only 5 rounds or so later. Once he gets the hang of the speed of our offence, It's going to be special, Nothing is connecting with him now which makes sense when our spine is constantly changing, His speed and movements are so different to AJs who's so different to JC.

He handled first grade way better then any other time defensively and that's what matters.

Can we just talk about the young forwards today standing up with Moe the vet now (who’s not even close to being actually old yet lol)

Pahulu 8 runs for 82m, 36pm off 30mins of play
Klese haas 12 runs for 96m 40 pcm and 2 tackle busts
Fermor 18 runs 169m 44 pcm and 1 line break but the best thing about today was he had that speed back in his legs to hit the line hard

I know people are down on losing Difi but we can easily have Fermor go left edge, haas go right edge and Tino back to lock next season

Des has done wonders with the forwards and their hard running this season

My only issue with Kini was I literally don't think I've ever seen him pass on the sweep, I'm sure it will come with time and confidence though.

Yeah 100%. It’s weird because at cup level he regularly shows a short & long passing game as well as an offload, and as of lately a short kicking game too. At NRL he just runs the ball with blinkers on. Which could very well be what he’s told to do to not over complicate his game. Like you say, it should come with time and confidence I’m sure

That's why I'm wondering if it's a spine training thing with timing and everyone changing?

He is at a different speed to everyone else and it was probably the critique I have of him, He does everything at 100 miles an hour... It;s a bit like Warriors Reece Walsh but he's doing the opposite and not risking it...

Kini is way more Reece Walsh then AJ and maybe the team struggles to train with Kini? Kini's best play is the right sweep which is the opposite of everyone of our teams best plays catering to the left. We've also slowly been heading way more right this season compared to last year. We saw it in origin last year when AJ was trying to be Walsh in Origin 3.

Just stick with Kini at 1 and AJ at 6 imo, AJs legs were sketchy and we're back at it... He can't deal with the fb metres in his legs, 6 he's fine and happy, Also defensively makes that side so much better...

I don't see the hype on Kini either. I think JC is way better and prefer him any day of the week. Kini is only very young which is a huge advantage but he has nothing to excite me at all. We have a long history of believing players will eventually live up to the hype and end up just being average players. Kini has time but so far AJ and JC are miles in front.

JC is 4 years older, of course he should be better?

His knees are legit dodgy as well and probably worse then AJs already, Rumours I've read, The constant PCLs on JC are very concerning..

JC is 24,,,, He's not some young kid either tbh, It's time to send him to halves or off, JC has done nothing either. I love JC but it's time to make your mark, JCs rate of wining is so bad in his games.

He's not the 21 yo kid we saw debut, It's time...

I understand what you guys are saying and I can’t help but think that contribution has a different meaning. He didn’t play badly he just contributed less than the efforts of the others. Like you say he’s a small body who tries hard, runs a lot and doesn’t pass, break the line or strategically kick. The other 16 all had multiple above and beyond contributions imo but that’s just me. Voting for players of the game was a lottery.
