Round 10: TITANS vs COWBOYS (2024)

That's what I'd argue Titan, Kini was so much better defensively and numbers wise sending them to each side... It was so different which is massive for a fullback imo...I'd take that over the jerking off over Sua last night who got caught out heaps...

He legit was massively defensively to where we could put AJ at 6 and have that side much better defensively. I don't know if it was on TV but it was so different.... There was a reason we didn't leak points till everyone got injured... He does pass and is the best player in QRL, it just takes time, He's 19.....

Everyone here hated Haas 6 months ago now we're fucked if he doesn't re-sign....
Let's stop judging kids who aren't over 21 in first grade..
Arama hau... He has talent, R.Foran has shown way more imo and actually looks Crighton like.

Schoupp has been the best centre in QRL as well by an absolute mile for what you want in NRL, That's why moneyball isn't a thing.

What They Said
"That was a pretty gutsy win, it had that written all over it, particularly with the way they played to set it up in the first half and then to hang on and keep turning up. I lost count after about five trysavers, we kept turning up. That's probably vindicative of what they've been doing over the past five weeks and it's really good that we got rewarded with the two points on the back of the effort. It was battle stations and they did a really good job covering and working hard for each other which is a really good trait to have as a footy side." - Titans coach Des Hasler

My only single criticism of Kini is just that he’s not providing much at the moment in terms of picking up the play-making slack. I do suspect, as with HS, that he’s being advised to keep things simple, which is totally fine for now, he’s got a big carry on him, has elite acceleration, and he’s keeping himself extremely busy with or without the ball.. Great!. Also his timing is coming along nicely on both ends of the field.

He’s just in a tight spot in the sense he’s now just too good for Q Cup but hasn’t quite found the path to be a genuine winning player at NRL level weekly but he’ll develop that with experience. I do like him a lot and am pretty bullish on his frame, think he’s got a lot of upper body hypertrophy potential still on the table.

Josiah Pahulu was particularly impressive again tonight. Had easily 4 carries that kind of erased any otherwise mediocre setup, and got us well over the advantage line. Looked deadly attacking the Cows right corridor. Moving forward I think we have to free up a spot for him in the 17 permanently, and I’m not really in support of us signing any sort of mid-range middle who could potentially block his development as it’s certainly on the right path.

Something that’s maddening about how the nrl team utilises jc is that he has a massive boot on him that he never gets to use. I remember games at tweed he would stick up floaters that reminded me of Burton bombs. Maybe the kick pressure is harder in the nrl and that’s why he hasn’t used it but I think you could mould him into a halfback ala Hughes

100% agree JC is a 7/6 … in defence he can use his guile and wirey strength while in attack his elusiveness and he has footy IQ and a kick … AJ again succumbs to a soft tissue injury which is limiting our options. Another interesting teams Tuesday.

I’ll put my hand up and say I was so wrong about Klese. Wanted Alick in the 17 over him to start the year, but he has been outstanding this season. 80 minutes in the middle with only 1 missed tackle is huge, and he had 3 offloads as well so he’s adding to his attacking game. If we can lock him down I feel great about our middles over the next few years with Tino, Moe, Jimmy, Klese and Pahulu, with guys like Clark and Randall as well.

Klese always seemed he had the ability and he certainly had the requisite physical traits for a very good edge forward. It seemed he lacked confidence previously and was evidenced in his lack of involvement particularly in attack. It appears he is starting to gain that confidence which is showing in greater involvement in attack and some ball playing skills. He always was good in defence. He is a must to lock down in another contract

Very happy to get the win in the weekend. You can tell we aren’t a team that is used to winning though.

I reckon we’ll continue to see improvement but our starts to each half are a real worry. We also did our best to let them back into the game every opportunity we could after the first 35min. The offloads and dumb plays right before halftime almost made me pull my hair out. Thankfully the luck was with us this time. If we let them get to 20-6 at halftime it would have been advantage Cowboys going off previous performances.

Hopefully Foz and AJ are available this weekend. AJ’s defence and talking in the defensive line really sets the tone and now Foz is at 7 we finally have some direction around the park. If we have the troops I give us a good chance against Newy

Loved everything about that game!
Was it perfect? No.
A lot to improve? Yes.
But the the heart these boys are showing is the best I’ve seen at this club.
They’re showing they’re finally prepared to put their bodies on the line for each other and you could honestly feel that desperate energy spread through the stadium.
It was electric!
Jojo’s effort to sprint from his left wing to stop Holmes’ in the other corner was case in point.
Just bloody proud!
