Round 12: BRONCOS vs TITANS (2024)

And next week, the saga continues against arch rivals the Broncos at Lang Park.

Hope we have some troops coming back. But on balance, I think we can take some strength from today, with many players playing admirably.

Team list speculation for Round 12

Brisbane Broncos vs Gold Coast Titans 2pm AEST at Suncorp Stadium

Last week’s Broncos team: 4. Selwyn Cobbo 2. Corey Oates 3. Kotoni Staggs 21. Josiah Karapani 5. Deine Mariner 6. Ezra Mam 7. Jock Madden 8. Corey Jensen 9. Tyson Smoothy 10. Payne Haas 11. Brendan Piakura 12. Jordan Riki 13. Patrick Carrigan 14. Blake Mozer 15. Xavier Willison 16. Kobe Hetherington 17. Jack Gosiewski

Team Tips: Reece Walsh is scheduled to return from a knee complaint in Round 12, but there are fears his injury is worse than first thought, placing his Maroons Origin availability in doubt. If Walsh is fit Selwyn Coobo would shift back to the centres with Josiah Karapani dropping out. There were reports Billy Slater asked Cobbo to play fullback for the Broncos in a bid to test him there, with Kalyn Ponga unavailable if Walsh fails to recover in time for Origin I. Billy Walters is also scheduled to return from a wrist injury, which would see Tyson Smoothy shift to the bench and Blake Mozer drop out. Payne Haas sent a scare through the Broncos and Blues camps after limping off with an ankle injury but later returned to the field to finish the game. Second-rower Brendan Piakura can escape with a fine for a careless high tackle charge.

Last week’s Titans team: 1. Keano Kini 2. Alofiana Khan-Pereira 3. Brian Kelly 4. Aaron Schoupp 5. Jojo Fifita 6. Chris Randall 18. Thomas Weaver 8. Moeaki Fotuaika 7. Sam Verrills 10. Jaimin Jolliffe 11. David Fifita 12. Beau Fermor 13. Klese Haas 9. Erin Clark 14. Keenan Palasia 15. Isaac Liu 16. Josiah Pahulu. 18th man: 19. Tony Francis

Team Tips: Kieran Foran is due back from a hamstring injury with Chris Randall to make way. Sam Verrills was named in the No.7 last week, but Thomas Weaver came in at halfback and will likely wear the No.7 jersey this week. Jayden Campbell is due back from a knee injury, but given Keano Kini’s form he may return off the bench. Jaimin Jolliffe left the field against the Knights after eight minutes with a pectoral injury that is set to sideline him for an extended period. Forward Keenan Palasia escaped with a fine for a careless high tackle charge.

Judiciary update: Keenan Palasia

Gold Coast forward Keenan Palasia has been charged by the match review committee following the Titans' Magic Round clash against the Knights on Saturday afternoon.

Placed on report in the 58th minute, the enforcer has been hit with a Grade 1 Careless High Tackle charge on Newcastle back Enari Tuala in what is deemed to be his first offence.

But in good news for the Titans enforcer, the early guilty plea will only result in a $1,000 fine. Should he elect to fight the charge and be found guilty at the hearing, he will be charged $1,800.

No plea has been submitted at this time.

I remember we played Drongoes at home last year and I decided to watch Palasia closely.

Each time he had a run he seemed to hit the deck as soon as a hand was laid on him and I thought “oh dear”.

I’ve seen nothing so far from him to stop me being epically underwhelmed by him.

If he gets a quick PTB with a scattered defence that’s not necessarily a bad thing, particularly if Kini or JC is sniffing around.

Fullback Reece Walsh and hooker Billy Walters both return in a major boost for the Broncos ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Indigenous Round derby against the Titans at Suncorp Stadium.
Walsh (knee) and Walters (wrist) both missed Friday’s tough 13-12 victory over Manly but trained strongly today and will take their place in the starting side, meaning Selwyn Cobbo returns to the centres and Tyson Smoothy to the interchange.
Forward leader Payne Haas has also been named after showing no ill-effects of a nerve issue in his foot that forced him from the field in the Magic Round victory.
The only other change for the Broncos sees tough centre Kotoni Staggs drop out of the team with a fractured first rib picked up in the first half against the Sea Eagles.
Broncos Coach Kevin Walters said: “It is an injury that you can play with and we know that Kotoni is a tough player but I’ve taken that decision out of his hands.
“He will be far better to miss this week and then let it continue to heal over the bye round before we get back into it against the Sharks in Round 14.
“Indigenous Round is really special to Kotoni and the whole team will go out there and make sure we deliver a big performance for him and our supporters.”
In Staggs’ absence, Josiah Karapani will retain his spot in the centres after making a standout debut against Manly, surging for 174 running metres from 17 carries as well as chalking up five tackle busts.

Please please please
Foz in
Randle to bench (I think we have to look long term and play Verrills)
Stimson out
I'm with you mate. Although I'd start Randy. I think Josiah will feel safer with him there in the middle for the softening up period.

SO BLOODY STOKED FOR BIG TONY!!! Can't wait for him to run over Oates, Cobbo and Walsh on the way to the tryline.

We're seriously up against a good side this weekend and the loss of Staggs won't mean much. Time to show some steal.

It'd be weird if we get to play 80min with 17 players. When was the last time that happened?
