Round 14: TITANS vs SOUTHS (2023)

I agree with most of what you said but please no unless McLean is on a very cheap deal. He's got to be one of the most inconsistent middles in the competition. He has a good season once every three or four years. He's also not particularly physically dominant for a big-bodied middle.

I've noticed that too and am not sure why that is. I like his body shape to mix things up for us. There are a few experienced middles off contract at the end of this year and some we might be able to convince off contract in 2024. These include:
- Josh Kerr
- Aussie Jim Tamou
- Marty Taupau
- Nathan Brown
- Jai Arrrow
- Hame Sele
- Wiremu Greig
- and Matt Lodge but I can't stand him.

Fancy any of those (Radio) Birdman?

Schoupp on the left which is where I originally thought he was recruited for and Jojo on the right is the best option. Then Sami on the right wing and stick with Lofi on the left otherwise Maumalo (speed v size).

Shawn Blore anyone?

Like Sorensen, I haven't seen enough of him but what I've seen has been promising. Is Sorensen still an edge? How does he go in the middle?

We've got three middles coming into the 30 next year in Palasia, Pahulu and Liyou. I can see us releasing Vuna and maybe Mikaele unless he gets a shot and impresses.

Ryan Foran also steps up next year but doesn't look like any more than depth. Spending priorities is a tough one.

We are certainly short a quality edge forward having to use Stimson who is a middle as soon as we have an injury on the edge. We also lack experience and quality in the centres and a quality centre would help develop our current rookies in this position and provide some composure out wide.

Bullemore isn't as good but would be a fair bit cheaper. Also Mitchell Dunn comes off contract and he can play middle as well. It seems a long time coming back from that injury to where he was though.

Averillo, Brad Parker and Hiku seem like the only experienced centres on the market.

Hiku has signed with Hull KR the other day and I'm pretty sure Gould posted a photo with someone who looked like Averillo and a contract, I like Brad Parker but you'd have to overpay for him to get him from Manly as they love him.

I think it's our systems, Look at guys that leave and they all seem to cut most of the defensive errors out of their game, They still have some in them but Issako and Marzhew are competent enough to where they are big +'s for their team, Here they were horrendous and two of the worst defenders in the comp.

Brett Whites systems don't magically stop working, Canberra are a solid defensive team and he worked on them for 7 years. The only slack I'm willing to cut the players is that it might take a year to get these bad habits out of their system, The problem is they seem to be getting worse as the season goes on.

I don't think anyone in free agency is good enough to come here and make any changes, I'd be looking at trading some guys and bringing in higher levels of talent if possible who are already on deals.

I honestly believe the systems break down due to fatigue and a terrible rotation policy. Always seems like players are left on the field to the point of exhaustion before they're taken off

Brad Parker, you are kidding. Mclean, Hiku , Parker would take the club backwards

I've been thoroughly impressed by Wiremu Greig this year. A very hard working middle just coming into his best years.

I don't think we can afford to use a top 30 spot on another middle though. We have bigger priorities elsewhere.
