Round 14: TITANS vs SOUTHS (2024)

Great time to have a bye in Round 13 and lick our wounds. Hope to see some familar faces back. And you could imagine how they'd feel rejoining such a team after the Broncos win.

If media is to be believed Fifita isn't getting picked for Game 1. I feel very very sorry for the Wabbits, thats gonna be one fired up Fifi

It's looking like AJ won't be back until Round 18, HSS R17 and Sami R15. Let's hope Big Tony is ok.

In that case I don't know what to do with Lofi. The only way to get rid of him is to play Jojo there and JC in the centres and keep Randy at 6 (which he has excelled expectations). Otherwise it makes more sense to put JC at 6 with Foran at 7 (also excelling expectations there). I think I like that better. Despite what he brings, I have to drop Weaver. Still too brittle in D.

Two options below. What do you LoT think?

1 Kini
2 Jojo / Lofi
3 Kelly
4 JC / Jojo
5 Francis
6 Randy / JC
7 Foran
8 Mo
9 Verrills
10 Pahulu
11 DF
12 Beau
13 Klese

14 Clark
15 Palasia
16 Alick
17 Liu / Randy

Out of those options Jojo to centre, JC 6 but idk I really liked the way Weaver moved the ball around for us and this is the best time to give him a chance to earn the jersey while Tanah is out. I’d be putting JC at 1 and Kini on the bench, or even vice versa

I reckon Kini deserves to keep the spot for now, I thought he played his best game by far for us yesterday

I think if JC isn't starting somewhere, he should start on the bench that week and we'll see how he performs

JC has many options although my preferred is left wing with BK and a roaming license. Jojo gets right centre with Francis. Weaver and Randall the half's until Foz and AJ return. Kini is the only fit #1 we have so that decision doesn't need to be made until we have fully fit roster. TBH, Fermor is the one that worries me most. 11 mistake ridden games settling back after injury is becoming wearisome.

I thought Fermor played well on the weekend. Not perfect, but a big improvement on the first few rounds.

I’d keep weaver in the side he was great yesterday. I do like Randy at 6 great defensively.

I’d keep Kini at 1 and use jc off the bench.

Totally agree and I reckon he carries well plus he has a big motor but he is a deadset turnstile in defence whenever he has to move the slightest bit laterally. Missed tackles don't seem to count when you don't lay a finger on your man but still both he and Kelly feature prominently on the NRL missed and ineffective tackles lists. Not all their fault but that's where we get attacked and that's where we capitulate. Must worry Des.

Fermor’s form is a worry. He’s really struggled to develop into a right edge back rower where his game is not built on attack. Correct me if I’m wrong but he’s played every minute this season I believe. He’s had plenty of time to adjust..

Kini had best game in first grade yet. We do love over hyping players though don’t we.. can’t believe we’re discussing moving JC or AJ to accomodate him.

We did the same thing with Sexton, Boyd, Weaver, JC the list goes on. They all showed a little promise and we brought them in immediately. One good game doesn’t justify replacing the injured incumbent.

People being excited about a player =/= overhyping

The optimism around Keano isn’t comparable to any of those guys, I’m sorry. His pathway to grade and what he’s shown at junior and cup level in particular is just on a completely different level, especially at his age. That doesn’t mean he’s going to be a success in the NRL at all, and I don’t think anyone is assuming he will be - but people are optimistic about him because of what he’s done at those other levels - because it’s been exceptional. And that’s great. It’s a good thing to have that excitement in a fanbase.

Honestly I think the response on here to where he’s at as an NRL player has been pretty balanced.

He had an excellent game on the weekend and was arguably best on field. He’s also still realistically our third best fullback. Both can be true.

I agree with HS, although Kini killed it yesterday, he is still our 3rd choice fullback. AJ and JC have both played many games to that level and have been more consistent at cracking games open. Happy to eat my words if I'm wrong in the future and Kini gets the fb spot but I want to see all 3 succeeed but we can't base it down to 1 game this season!

Just backing up on that I thought Palasia did well distributing the ball from that lock type position, still need to see more consistency but its a step in the right direction.

Don't know who's drank the Dessie juice but Randall, Klese, Randall, Pahulu, Clarke have been the best I have seen them yet. Glad to see the boys stepping up with all our injuries!

I am building something of a theory based on three things. Firstly the pre-season performances of the trialists and the firsts, secondly the poor start to the season and finally on the recent performances of the second stringers.

When we were 0-5 and getting reamed every week we were fielding our popular first choice team. Then the injuries started and form reversed. Perhaps it was the changes that had to be made … just saying.
