Round 15: WESTS TIGERS vs TITANS (2024)

I say he has. His involvement is sky high and puts some players to shame in terms of work effort.

To think he is only 19 with so much more to improve on. He will have a 10+ NRL career and we need to ensure they are all with the Titans
With Carter Gordon coming it makes me wonder what to do with JC and Weaver moving forward.
I mean a fly half in Union really should be a 7 in NRL.
Maybe you go with
1 Kini
6 AJ
7 Gordon
14 Campbell
You are going to often have injuries and need JC in that spine starting anyway.
Maybe that means unfortunately bye to Weaver and Boyd and we bring through Harrison longer term.
That’s harsh but you can’t have so many spine players.

Has Keano clearly overtaken JC at fullback?

IMO he has. Keen to hear what everyone’s thoughts are though
I personally don't think so yet, I think people have short memories and only remember the most recent 3 or 4 games (memory bias).

Jayden has had some incredible games at fullback and he was the x factor. Right now that is Kini and he is the energy. Think it's still too early to judge, but both have so much potential, I just wish one of them was big enough to play centre or wing.

On another note I was at the game today and during the warm ups doing catching drills jojo and sami were dropping more balls than they were catching.

Also looking at our forward pack, boy are we small. Our forwards are barely bigger than our outside backs. Need some bigger bodies in there asap

Absolutely, I will be surprised to see JC play 1 again unless the other 2 are injured. Might be controversional but if JC doesn’t show something over the rest of this year he might not have much of a future at this club. Needs to drastically improve his ball distribution if he is going to be 6

Not really within our control with Tino and JJ out long term. Can only suggest Stimson in for Liu but that’s just rearranging deck chairs. Not sure what’s going on with IF but he’s not that big anyway.

I'm really starting to think he has to go to wing with a licence to roam

I guarantee you Kini would brain it on the wing but he'd be wasted somewhat there.

The gulf in quality between Kini and Lofi is Grand Canyon sized.

Short term (Operation: Get Lofi out of the team)

1 AJ/JC
2 Kini
3 Kelly
4 Jojo
5 Sami
6 JC/AJ
7 Foran

Long term

1 Kini
2 Francis
3 Kelly/Stephenson
4 Jojo
5 Sami
6 AJ
7 JC/Weaver/Harrison/halfback swapped for JC

I actually think a lot of good will come from this season. We lost because we were dumb and not composed.
We have a heap of our best on the sidelines.
Des gets a chance to:
1-teach
2-reshape the roster
3-build culture
Pretty sure with 2025 signings that not many spots available and I don’t think much cash available. So Des can make a change here or there but it won’t be reshaping mode.

Well he can elect to not offer them contracts and let them know very early on.

I don’t think he has either. Kini has certainly improved but JC is still a better prospect in my opinion. I’d be putting Kini on the wing and AJ at 6 when he’s fit. Kini so
Kini for me. Kid has such a high ceiling if he can remain relatively free from major injury. Really happy he's signed till the end of 2026.
Im still firmly in the JC camp. People have short memory’s, JC was one of our best last year when he played at fullback.

Kini isn’t far off but his stature will always work against him.

I’d just like to see some consistency in selections when everyone is fit. When AJ is back I’d be going AJ 6, JC 1 and Kini on the left wing.

Going to be interesting to see how Gordon evolves. I think his game naturally suits 6 in league, similar type player to Wighton. 7 would be too much of an ask for a union convert. If that is the case then we have the same question of what to to with AJ.

In some ways it was an odd buy. What we we really need is a top quality 7 and centres. Our roster is so unbalanced at the moment.

JC has shown on multiple occasions he is a game breaker. If we need 200+ meters a game from a back we should of kept Marzew. Kini does seem to have a high upside but so far JC has shown far better ability in support play and influencing the result of a football match. Not sure on eithers ability to organize a defensive line.

AJ is obviously the best for that position but if we have him at 6 then I still would prefer JC at 1 rather than kini. JC is plenty capable of doing work through the middle too.

His stats yesterday were:
1 Try assist
2 Linebreaks
3 Linebreak Assists
11 Tackle busts
22 hitups
18 hitups 8m+
Plus that try-saving tackle in the second half.

So to compare him to your standard outside back metre-eater like Marzhew is a bit unfair.

I still love JC don't get me wrong, but the big thing I have against him besides being injury prone is that his defence was abysmal back there and never seemed to improve.
