Round 19: TITANS vs PARRA (2024)

What a difference a year makes. Clark was running across field trying to be a playmaker. Then enter Des. There was a period when Foz stood beside him and shouted “just run straight”. Now he’s one of the best performing small middles in the game.

Forget about the spine, who goes when Mo, JJ and Tino return, other than Liu?

JC without the strapping looked right at home, pickle juice aside. Anyone else have a heart attack when he was limping after putting up a bomb towards the end of the game?

We haven’t won ugly very often in recent years so it’s strangely comforting to see that we can do so when we’re playing against a side we are expected to beat. Take the 2 points and move on.

JC’s impact has been immense. He’s starting to learn how to feel out defences and you can see it with when he’s calling for the ball and how he’s using it. With AJ signing that deal until 2030 I really hope it doesn’t compromise JC’s future at the club, which will come to a head next year.

Speaking of AJ - he was understandably rusty, but he wasn’t as impactful as Keano has been in recent games. I get why AJ was moved straight into the spot and predict he’ll remain there for the season at least but he didn’t play great last night. I hope Keano’s confidence hasn’t taken a hit.

He’s been mentioned but shoutout to Matua Erin Clark as well.

Game versus Manly down there next week will be a test. I’m a bit worried about the matchup - they play expansive out of yardage and our edge D has been caught out there numerous times this year

Mo, JJ, Tino, Pahulu, Clark, Palasia, Haas, Izac, Jaw.
Still would depend on the spine in regard to what bench spots would be available. If we find our solution with Kini & AJ where they both somehow fit into the starting 13, You'll have 3 of the above miss out. We know for a fact Mo & Tino will be starting.

If we have let's say Kini of the bench similar to how JC was for us the past few years, then four of the above miss out. These type of selection headaches happen when a good coach knows how to utilise player's strengths.

We haven't resigned Haas or Jaw for next season. Keep in mind we have our dev players too itching to progress up the ranks. I'm glad we have the depth for once.

3 in a row lads! First time since 2021 (fark we've been a woeful bunch 😅).
JC is now 15 goals in a row from the wahs game (since he didn't play sharkies), and if you include Boyd's 4 from last week, we as a team have kicked 19 in a row now.

speaking of JC, what an absolute gun. 3 TA's and LBA's, and again showed off his long kicking game like it was nothing to him. Exactly like his father in regard to his humbleness & grit, yet he has that sort of X factor about him where you know he is about to take his game to the next level in the next few years. If I don't see him extend long term like Tino & AJ, I'll be gutted. I love the idea of having a dynasty start with the Campbell's. Hopefully in a decade's time the Preston Campbell stand gets Jayden's name added to it.

AJ's try assist for Parra (own goal? own try?) had the whole members section in shambles. BUT, as most have said here already, I can excuse it as you know that sort of mistake is not a common thing for AJ, and even AJ acknowledges his screw up there. AKP & BK get hassled for their mistakes, even the minor one's because it is such a common thing with them (same with Tiny hands).

Other takes on the game:
- Love seeing us actually complete sets. Up until AJ's blunder, I believe we were completing at 100%, and finished the game with 86% completion.
- Seeing the team make a genuine effort to chase the kick on last can make a grown man cry (it shouldn't, but it will!).
- I can't believe I am saying this, but Erin Clark is starting to become one of my favourite players. I used to be one of his biggest haters, but the guy has really turned it around. A coach like Des knows how to unlock player's potential, and actually has a place for them in his team.
- Hopefully once JJ is back we drop Liu into the abyss with all the other bang average players who have been at our club. He offers nothing in attack or defence like he once used too at the Roosters.

All in all, it is starting to come together, and whether or not we make a push, it is good to see the signs of what is to come if the boys can keep it up.

Now just think what we could do if we signed Campbell-Gillard

Judiciary update: Brimson, Randall hit with fines after Eels clash

Titans duo AJ Brimson and Chris Randall have been charged by the match review committee following the Titans' 24-16 win against the Eels on Saturday night.

But in good news for the Gold Coast pair, both will be free to play against the Sea Eagles next Sunday after only escaping with fines.

Randall was hit with a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact charge on Parramatta's Reagan Campbell-Gillard in the fourth minute, resulting in a $1,800 fine for his second offence; whilst Brimson received a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact charge on Brendan Hands in the 34th minute, which sees him hit with $750 in his first offence.

No plea has been submitted at this time.

First 15-20 minutes were awesome, great line speed and first up contact. The rest of the match was dour and really represented two cellar dwellers battling it out. Couldn't be more ecstatic about the two points, it makes the week so much more lovely.

How far has JC come since his debut? I wouldn’t have had him anywhere near first grade back then. His defence at fullback was as bad as Sloane.
Now, I see him as our long term 5/8. He has it all. Speed, defence, brains, and kicks in both general play and goals. With Foran lining up for another year, Kini and AJ, where does Carter Gordon fit?
