Round 20: MANLY vs TITANS (2024)

I'm phrasing on of the GOAT quotes in sports imo. Brian Scalabrine... This guy was a great end of bench player in the NBA who'd come on at the end of games and vibe guy called the White Mamba as a play on Kobe but Kevin Garnett and heaps of players said he was awesome 1on1 in practice and hard to deal with. He was mocked heavily on social media and started the challenge, he would go cook these great college or best high school players and teach them a lesson in that, He's really, really good and that being the 15th man, He still cooked everyone who wasn't and not proven.

BK has played 160 or whatever games of NRL as bad as some of them have been and probably shouldn't be that high, Carter Gordon has played 0 games of rugby league even at the A grade level at Tweed Seahawks or something but is being put above Tannah or HSS. Not that they're setting the world on fire but everyones acting as if the NRL is easy.

I hope CG is better then BK and everyone else day 1 but jeez there's a reason BK has played the amount of games he has, He's got talent and skills that not most do with the ball which is why he's been given the freedom to be so bad defensively through multiple coaches.

CG hasn't played a game of cup yet, Are we in that bad of hole and if so shouldn't there be bigger questions if someone who's never played league is the savior in the centre spot? I don't want BK in my team but thinking some dude who's never played league in his life is the answer because he played for a bad Wallabies team.. There's kids like Stephenson ahead of Gordon, He's played 15 or mins in cup as a HS student and played QLD 19s as an 18 year old, How's he not closer????

The concerning aspect from this game is the extent of the loss. You can cop a hard fought loss but the best teams do not get beaten by large blowouts as in this game. We have certainly improved under Des, but there is such a long way to go which requires consistency at a high level for the Titans to even compete for the competition.

I agree, WD. I put that down to personnel. Pahulu and Kini are still learning that consistency and our experienced players had off games (JC, Foz, DF, BK). Plus we carried two on the bench for limited minutes and had two centres that we knew would get shredded by Manly out wide. Lofi doesn't help there either.

Simply, we can't defend our edges against decent sides with that line up. Not sure what options Des had available to him either. It could have been the same result with Beau in the centres too.

But I get what you're saying. Our mentality needs to improve so we can rise in adversity, instead of folding. It's a big job and I think Des has already got us some of the way.

I'd love to know more about our game plan in attack. Was it just execution? I'd also like to see a better bench and better rotation. We'll need to bring our A game against the Phins.

Surely when you give away a huge weight advantage eventually something has to give. We burned so much energy trying to score in the first 20 that there wasn't much left once we made a few mistakes (looking at you BK) and had to defend for multiple sets.
