Round 20: TITANS vs RAIDERS (2022)

Didn't bother watching the game because we are so rubbish I find myself going for the opposition.
I said back in round 3 we wouldn't win another game this year...well I'm going to extend this to next year and things look that bad I can't see another win while Hurricane is at the helm.
Anyone who things this bloke can dig us out of this hole is delusional and I'm so disgusted in the clubs management I'm thinking of giving the game away all together TBH.

I tend to agree, cannot see a win for remainder of the year.

Mate tino is to good for us. If we fail him again next year we should let him go as I can't handle ruining another great young man's career.

Watching the sharks rabbits reminds me how much rabbits have chopped and changed the centre spot most of the year trying to find the right man for the job.

Yet Holbrook persists with Herbert after loss after loss. I hope he changes his ways and stops blindly supporting players who clearly a rent up for it. It's not just about training but how they gel on the field and inswear Herbert doesn't gel with anyone

No idea who i'd even rather have in the centres at this rate, BK & Herbert have regressed/can't defend, Jojo is still learning rugby league, Sami probably I guess? Spry is recovering from brain damage, Tony Francis still young, Marzhew a winger, pretty dire position right now and not so easily solved.

Shoutout to Brimson, Sami and obviously Tino, the 3 we can count on for effort, so too left-edge Fermor and now Aaron Booth & Jojo entering that shortlist.

There’s something going on, Tino said “I only want to play with the guys who want to be here”.

That’s very telling. It screams loudly that there is a rift in the playing group. Not really surprising when the coach keeps picking players that don’t belong out there.

Did anyone else see the “try confirmed” graphic before they then took the try off Fermor? Yeah, he knocked it on, but I’m sure it was confirmed.

I wonder how we'd go putting AJ in the centres. I think Sexton still has a ways to go, but maybe him and Foran in the halves, JC at fullback and AJ in one of those centre spots might work?

Wooden Spoon confirmed.

@Boonies: yep I saw it too.
@Dobes: 1. Campbell 2. Sami 3. Brimson 4. Jojo 5. Marzhew 6. Rogers 7. Boyd 9. Booth

Pretty close imo…can’t go with Boyd at 7, good today but have seen enough to know he is not the option

I’m not a Boyd fan either but the options are so limited. You’d prefer Sexton? For what it’s worth he needs a reaming and a wake up call.

The longer this goes on the more clueless the club looks. It’s just damaging the titans brand at this point which is already worth 3/8s of **** all

As I previously stated mate the devaluation really started last year when Hurricane continued to pick Taylor when it was blatantly obvious even to a half whit that Taylor wasn't up to the task. We are in real strife here because no-one is really acknowledging Hurricane is useless and has no idea. Sugar coat it all you like at all our peril

Mate Boyd has struggled previously but I think he is on the up now and is a smokey to really kick on IMO

Yeah I would absolutely agree. Boyd has always had the enthusiasm and just looks like he always wants to hook in it’s just he has never converted that into his play on the field and looks like he is starting to put it together and find his place.

Let’s face it with the tigers win last night I’d say we all but have the spoon this year. Those in the media who want to say that we shouldn’t be in the comp and don’t belong will only get more oxygen. Look we have maybe one more “rebuild” in us before those remaining give up on us. I don’t want to go through it again but something has been rotten at the club for the past 10+ years and until they sort it we are going no where. They need to fix it at all levels not just slap a here is a new coach and a few new player band aid on it.

Holbrook brings out the same old excuses. Sorry but woulda, coulda and shoulda don’t win NRL games.

Why can Kimmorley galvanise his players to bring enthusiasm and effort to knock over the Broncos and should have beaten the Cows where our excuse of a coach cannot get any effort or desire out of our players to even be competitive in a game. There was no effort to get off our defensive line, no effort to put pressure on their kicker and no effort to chase our kicks where the Raiders kick returns were twice as much as the Titans.

Unless our players show commitment to the effort areas in the defensive parts of the game, it does not matter who plays in what position in the team as the team just won’t be competitive in any game. Holbrook has shown he does not possess the ability to galvanise commitment or effort from the players.

Holbrook talks about inexperience in his squad but all I see is an inexperience NRL coach who thinks he is playing chess with his constant changes of players during the game. 3 hookers used, swapping edge forwards around, moving your fullback to 5/8. It is just a recipe for disaster as their is no continuity for players to gel.

Holbrook has been a failure in so many areas including selections, recruitment, accepting poor performance through continued selection of poor performing players, non recognition that you need a good 7 to steer your team, lack of ability to get players to put in effort in the basic effort areas of the game.

There is something rotten throughout this club but if the coach cannot get the basics right, he needs to accept that he is out of his depth at the NRL level and it is time for the club to act and move in another direction with an experienced NRL coach with proven results.

I have a view that the Board, being inexperienced in Rugby league, rely heavily on the advice of Mal who himself was a complete failure as a club coach and who was the principal supporter of hiring Holbrook in the first place. He would be very reluctant to admit he was wrong.

Besides Holbrook’s unsuitability as the Titans coach, I see Mal’s position in the club as one of the biggest problems who has not improved performance or culture in his 4 years at the club and who needs to be moved on and replaced by a proven performer at NRL club level.

Well said Whats Doing!

I think that I'm officially in the AJ to centre camp now. I've been hoping that with more game time he would come right at 6 but he goes missing every time he plays there. He doesn't have a kick on him either which compounds our problem at 7. Campbells ceiling looks a lot higher to me than AJ at fullback. Sure at the moment AJ's defence is better but Campbell is the better player in attack for me. His defence will come in time (ala Papenhuyzen).

The thing that annoys me the most about AJ is he just doesn't seem to want to take the game by the scruff of the neck. He sits back and relies upon the ball coming to him. I always thought that he had the potential to turn into a Munster. He's a good runner of the ball and can spark something out of nothing but he doesn't seem to have the game awareness to turn it on when the team needs something. He should have been barking at the hooker in the second half demanding the ball instead of hit up after hit up on the try line, but he was nowhere to be seen. Both him and Sami are too layed back. They are the most experienced in the backline but are happy for everyone else to do the work.

I don't see any point in dropping Sexton. He will be all the better for this year once he gets some experience around him. His potential is very high - he was the Australian Schoolboy halfback - there should be no doubt in that, but at the moment I'll concede he's going backwards. We just need this season to end unfortunately, but since that's not possible, can we please have Marzhew back!

NZF there has been thousands of junior representatives that have been unable to push thru to the adult game.
IMO Sexton's main attribute is kicking but I'd suggest this is still only of average quality.
I'll tell you now if he is seen as our future 7 we are royally f@cked.
