Round 23: TITANS vs SHARKS (2024)

Will review the ‘Rooting Interests’ (named after Bodsy’s GOAT post) this week, but the round has pretty much gone as perfect as it could have, and with a win against Cronulla next week, it would very likely land us in pole position in 9th, to nab the 8th spot in the finals with a straight shootout to end the season against Redcliffe and Raiders, both have slightly unfavourable draws coming up.

What a way to end the season after the most miserable start. Up the Mighty Gold Coast Titans.

Just so stoked with how we came back after a poor start and were ruthless until the 80th minute.

So many storylines going into this game. Seeing young guys like Keano and Jojo take the game by the balls was unreal.

Going to thrash this kayo mini

Ffs I’ve posted this in the wrong thread lol

Trindall could be out with hamstring, kafusi looked injured at the end of the game and McInnes on report apparently could work out well for us

BK on report but no way he’s suspended.
Can’t remember anyone else on report.

Verrills a wrist but looking at it and him at the end I think he will be ok (touch wood)

If he is out then I guess it would Randle hooker, Klese starting lock (there’s an argument there though for Clark or Liu too) and the great AJ slots in to 14.

Haven’t looked into the draw of other teams at all but Dragons winning last can’t be good for our chances

If we can beat Sharkies this Friday and bank on Doggies pummelling the Dragons, we then can leap the dragons the following week IF we can win against them.

Rooting Interests for Round 23

Round 22 went almost perfectly for us, with the boys winning BIG, Eels pulling up and knocking the Wahs back, Easts taking care of Dolphins & Penrith sneaking past Newy... Sadly, Melbourne let us down pretty significantly with a loss to St.George, pretty much proving as a double L for us in the sense that Dragons now firm as at minimum a serious competitor for those last couple still up-for-grabs top 8 spots, while also ensuring that it is still possible that Penrith may have the Minor Premiership to play for in our round 27 duel with them. F u Melbourne.

As far as results for the other bottom 8 teams, Wests firm as Wooden Spooners, Parramatta still behind the pack, and Souths and NZ seated firmly under Democle's Sword, with their seasons possibly facing an early demise this week. Not to mention, the Broncos, who deserve their own post, now facing a certain unsuccessful season behind their heavy heavy defeat by the King's of SEQ + the injuries to Payne Haas & Ezra Mam.

Bottom top 8/bottom 8 tiers starting to look like:

Likely
1. Dragons
2. Dolphins
3. Raiders
Possible
4. Titans
5. Knights

Unlikely
6. Warriors
7. Broncos
8. Rabbitohs
GOOORN
9. Eels
10. Wests

So Results we want for Round 23:

@Rabbitohs vs. Storm -> Storm. We need them to shut out any Panthers hopes for Minor Premiership and hope they sit some guys in Rd 27. Rabbitohs falling is good too.
@Titans vs. Sharks -> Titans. None of this matters if we can't beat the Sharks. With a win here likely propelling us into 'likely' category.
@Eels vs. Panthers -> Eels. Probably?. Doesn't reeeallly matter but again, hope Panthers have little to play for when we face them.
@Raiders vs. Sea-Eagles -> Sea-Eagles... Logic being they take 7th, with teams like Raiders losing as much as possible opening up a more likely chance for us. However, on closer examination, Manly have a wee bit of a tricky end to the season, I just think that extra point keeps them above.
@Cowboys vs. Broncos -> Cowboys. GTFO Brisbane.
@Dragons vs. Bulldogs -> Bulldogs. Pretty big actually. A Dogs win keeps Dragons in distance, a Dragons win means they start to firm.
@Dolphins vs. Warriors -> ehhhh, Wahs, maybe?? Kind of a toss up. I'm just going to bank on Wahs capitulating at some stage so rather Dolphins fall, with both sides slightly unfavourable ends to the season.
@Knights vs. Tigers -> Wests. I reckon a Tigers win here would actually sink Newy.

The cool thing is that we face Dragons and @Newy to end the season, it's very likely our fate are determined by those two games... Dare I say, Mini GFs????

Aren't the Drongoes also out of finals contention after losing to us? I thought I heard they can't make finals

I hate to be a damp squib but I think NZT is right about the significance of that Melbourne loss. My prediction is that Penrith will be playing for the win and trying to draw level on points but gain the minor premiership on for and against. They have also had key players out all year and will be wanting to nail their combinations ahead of finals. That'll be a massive game for us ... if we can beat the Roosters.

We still need to improve a lot to beat those two teams and Sami and Kelly in the centres won't do it. AJ must have a blinder at centre for us to carry BK. Those two coaches will also pressure Lofi to breaking point over and over.

Beating the Drongos was fantastic but a) they're an overrated dumpster fire; and b) they lost two of their most important players in the first half.

I can't see us finishing higher than 10th, currently. I hope I change my mind in the coming weeks. I have the 8 as it is albeit in a different order at the bottom end and the Dolphins in 9th. I can't believe a team and club as incompetent as St George can make the 8 but that's how it is looking. A pox on both their houses.

Wishing and hoping is something best left for Dusty Springfield ... for us, we are the masters of our own destiny and all we can do is beat the Sharks on Friday. The rub for us is that every other team, high and low on the ladder, will be trying their best too, so by the law of averages some will fall in our favour IF we can keep winning. Plus I am going to admit to having the grubby Sharks high on my hate list.

I’m still treating our predicament as development mode.
Well part of being a mature developing club is to back up a really fantastic win with another good win the following week.
Also what an opportunity-a lot of fans who this time of year stop going to games will front up this week.
And this week we play a club with great culture.
Cronulla never give up.
