Round 24: DRAGONS vs TITANS (2024)

Well… if Dragons, Dolphins and Raiders lose this weekend the fire still burns. Otherwise the lads turning up will be a starting point. Bounce back factor has us up for this, pray Beau is back.

Time to start the pre-season. Even if we fluke finals, we're going nowhere with the current line up. I think Beau is out for a few weeks but the team I want next week is:

1 Kini
2 Lofi
3 AJ (last chance or 14 for the rest of the year)
4 Jojo
5 Francis
6 JC
7 Foz
8 Clark
9 Verrills
10 Jolliffe
11 DF
12 Klese (a stick around the ears for both second rowers before kick off)
13 Randall

14 Mo
15 Pahulu
16 Iszac
17 Hau

300 is an enormous milestone in the game. Foz will be up for it. Hopefully everyone else too.

Tough assignment though. This isn’t the dragons over previous years. And they are fighting for the finals.

They play straight and direct, similar to the Sharks. See whether we learnt anything from the Sharks game.

Dragons v Titans: Couchman back from ban; Fotuaika outed

The Dragons are chasing an immediate response when they host the Gold Coast Titans on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides are reeling after losses last weekend and fighting to keep their top-eight chances alive with just four rounds remaining.

It's St George Illawarra's first match at WIN Stadium since they fell to the Panthers in front of a sold-out crowd in Round 21 and they're hoping to pack the stands again this weekend.

The Dragons lost to the Bulldogs last Saturday to fall to ninth on the ladder and they are eager to bounce back on Sunday afternoon.

The Titans suffered a heavy 44-0 defeat to the Sharks that threatens to derail their late charge to the finals.

Des Hasler's side had won five of their last six to breathe life into their NRL campaign before the Cronulla game. Now, however, they sit four points outside the eight and need a win over a team sitting above them on the ladder to close the gap.

  • The Dragons have won three of their past four games against the Titans.
  • The Titans have lost five from five at WIN Stadium.
  • The Dragons have won three of their past four games at WIN Stadium.
  • Titans five-eighth Kieran Foran will play his 300th NRL game.
  • Dragons fullback Tyrell Sloan has scored nine tries in 11 games at WIN Stadium.

Foran to create history as first to reach 300 on the Coast

Kieran Foran will become the first player to reach the 300 NRL game milestone while wearing the Titans jersey, with the club to celebrate the achievement over the next two rounds of the competition.

The 16-season veteran will reach game 300 against the Dragons in Wollongong this Sunday, however Gold Coast fans will get the chance to celebrate with the 34-year-old when he returns to Cbus Super Stadium in Round 25.

Debuting back in 2009, Foran has played for Manly Sea Eagles, Parramatta Eels, New Zealand Warriors and Canterbury Bulldogs before joining the Titans in 2023.

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell says Foran is an ornament of the game, and his contribution should be celebrated as he prepares for his milestone match.

“As a club we are both excited and honoured to celebrate this occasion with Kieran,” he said.

“What a player he has been for such a long period of time, he’s made a significant contribution to our game.

“The value set and leadership qualities he’s brought to our club simply can’t be understated.

“The impact he’s had on our playing group will be felt long after he hangs up the boots, which we hope won’t be for a long time yet considering he’s still playing some of the best football of his career.

“While game 300 will land this week in Wollongong, we will honour Kieran at home next weekend against the Roosters giving our home fans a chance to be part of the celebrations.

“The Cbus Super Stadium field will be feature the 300 markings, and the official NRL ball presentation to Kieran will occur back at home on the Coast in Round 25.

“After full-time we will open the gates to allow the Titans Legion onto the field so that everyone can be part of Kieran’s celebrations.”

Foran will be the first Titan to reach the milestone wearing Gold Coast colours, with two former players also reaching the feat for other respective clubs - Scott Prince (Broncos) and Gavin Cooper (Cowboys).

Round 24 team: Fermor given every chance as history beckons against Dragons

The Titans may welcome back key forward Beau Fermor as early as this week as they prepare to travel to Wollongong for a history-making occasion against the Dragons.

Celebrating Kieran Foran's 300th NRL appearance - the first player to achieve the milestone in Titans colours - the Gold Coast will hope the edge forward will be given the green light to return in an added boost given the loss of Moeaki Fotuaika due to suspension.

Jaimin Jolliffe has been promoted to start in his place, with Keenan Palasia joining the interchange bench; whilst AJ Brimson returns to the pine with Brian Kelly's inclusion after missing last Friday due to illness.

A huge occasion for the club given the enormity of Foran's milestone, the Titans are also hoping to avenge their Round 1 defeat and create history by clinching their first victory in the Illawarra region, having been unsuccessful in their previous five visits to the venue.

Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.
