Super League

It would be a lot more attractive if they changed the name from Stupid League to something more British like the British Rugby League :)

The one thing they do have over the NRL is infinitely better broadcast commentary: articulate, knowledgeable and POSITIVE towards the game. I am completely over the Fox commentary team's focus on finding the negative within every play and decision. Sure the bunker makes plenty of errors and the refs "cheat" but their constant whining and whingeing is breeding a whole new generation of cry babies. Ref's have been disappointing 50% of the supporter base since Cleopatra played 9 for Julius' Caesars.

The name change was definitely up for discussion in the last six months. But it has gone quiet. IMG surveyed fans and they asked for alternatives.

I can’t stomach the name. And the fools who run the RFL/SL Europe never protected the name and soccer has moved in on it. It’s woeful.

Hopefully the NRL can muscle into the northern hemisphere soon. Because it’s busy week every week with these guys.

No joke as Adam Hills becomes British president, new team after Stefano, Broncos poach Dolphins coach

Australian comedian and broadcaster Adam Hills is to become the next president of Britain’s Rugby Football League.

Hills, whose TV presenting roles have included hosting terrestrial coverage of Super League with British network Channel 4, will succeed Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, in the honorary position next year.

Hills tweeted his delight at the appointment, saying: “I’ll do my best to promote all aspects of the game…I love rugby league, me.”

Hills, best known as one of the anchors of UK comedy show The Last Leg, was proposed at the annual general meeting of the Rugby League Council on Wednesday and will be formally elected for a two-year term in December.

As well as being a strong advocate for the game in general, Hills has also been a champion for physical disability rugby league as both an ambassador and player for Warrington and Australia.

RFL chief executive Tony Sutton said: “There has been no more enthusiastic or eloquent advocate for rugby league in the media than Adam in recent years, whether as host of Channel 4’s Super League coverage, or welcoming our England wheelchair World Cup winners as guests on The Last Leg.

“He also has authenticity, having been a mainstay of physical disability rugby league since it was launched in 2018.”

A pioneer of epic proportions ... the Aussie invasion continues. Eventually, an Australian will marry into the Royal Family and the circle will be complete.

BURGESS AGREES NEW CONTRACT EXTENSION

WARRINGTON WOLVES IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT HEAD COACH SAM BURGESS HAS AGREED A CONTRACT EXTENSION UNTIL THE END OF THE 2026 SEASON.

The 35-year-old has transformed the club both on and off the field since his appointment 12 months ago.

In his first season in charge Burgess guided the Wire to the Challenge Cup final in June whilst the club currently sits top of the Super League table heading into the business end of the campaign.

Sam is proudly sponsored by Overford and Wire Cranes.

Sam Burgess said: “It’s great to extend my time at the club.

“I love the town and the community and both me and my family are really enjoying our time here. The support from the board has been fantastic and the fans have been brilliant with me.

“We’re heading in the right direction and I felt two years wasn’t enough and a third gives us more scope to plan with what we’re building here.”

Warrington Wolves CEO Karl Fitzpatrick added: “We are delighted to have secured Sam for a further 12 months.

“At a fans event at the beginning of the season, having seen in the preseason how Sam operated, I promised our supporters that we would have a team this town and community can be proud of. It’s fair to say he has absolutely delivered on that.

“I think we’ve got the best and most sought after young coach in the game. The foundations he and his team are laying will hopefully set us up for something special for a long time.”

Sea Eagles form exciting partnership with Castleford Tigers

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have further expanded their footprints to attract the best young talent available from overseas with another exciting new partnership.

Following on from Manly’s already established partnerships with St Brendan’s College, Yeppoon, and the Mangere East Hawks in Auckland, the Sea Eagles have now joined forces with the Castleford Tigers in England.

Two of Castleford’s greatest ever players in Malcolm Reilly and Kevin Ward won premierships with the Sea Eagles. Reilly was a two time premiership winner in 1972-73 and Ward in 1987.

The partnership with Castleford will see the Sea Eagles work with the Tigers’ Academy program in helping to develop their players with an opportunity to bring some young talent to Manly for potential playing opportunities.

Both clubs will also work together in sharing ideas around coaching and training with plans underway to bring Castleford Academy players to the Northern Beaches for games against Manly’s pathways teams.

Manly CEO Tony Mestrov welcomed the partnership with Castleford Tigers.

“We want to focus on bringing through more of our very talented local juniors but at the same time, we want to complement that with the best international talent that is available,’’ Mestrov said.

“The Castleford Tigers have a great Academy program and a huge nursery in the Yorkshire region that we would like to tap into.

“This is already happening with our partnerships with St Brendan’s College and Mangere East Hawks and we can see similar progress and opportunities being made available now with Castleford.”

St Brendan’s College has produced a host of NRL players including current players Harry Grant, Ben Hunt and Corey Oates. Manly Coach Manly Coach Anthony Seibold graduated from the college in 1991.

Two of their students in Tyler Melrose and Simon Green have already earned contracts with Manly's SG Ball squad next year.

The partnership with Mangere East Hawks, situated in the south of Auckland, provides coaches and female players with development opportunities and pathways to progress to the Sea Eagles.

It was great to see London thump Hull FC on the weekend. They deserve to stay up, even they though they were officially doomed before a ball was kicked. And given far less funding than other clubs. So unfair.

I was really happy to have tuned into SuperLeague_+ (Kayo in Oz?) to watch Warrington v St Helens in an opening round Finals thriller. It went to Golden Point.

For those at home, I've adopted Warrington as my Super League club.

Next in the Semi Finals

HULL KR v Warrington Wolves
Wigan vs Leigh
