The arrival of the Dolphins – who make their NRL debut with a Sunday afternoon Suncorp Stadium showdown against the Roosters this weekend – will deliver an extra seven games of action for the famous Caxton Street precinct throughout the season.

IT’S the footy feast delivering a multimillion-dollar free kick for Caxton Street.

The arrival of the Dolphins – who make their NRL debut with a Sunday afternoon Suncorp Stadium showdown against the Roosters this weekend, will deliver an extra seven games of action for the famous Caxton Street precinct throughout the season.

It has the area’s traders popping the champagne corks, and the beer kegs, and the spirit bottles, with the Dolphins set to bring an extra 200,000 fans into the bars, restaurants and clubs surrounding the hallowed sporting cathedral over the course of the year.

On top of games featuring the Broncos, rugby’s Reds, State of Origin and Magic Round, Caxton Street will become Australia’s unofficial sports entertainment capital with matches virtually every weekend for the next six months.

On the back of hallowed Suncorp turf being relaid following a trio of Ed Sheeran concerts, it is all systems go for this weekend’s historic match, with bars and restaurants putting on extra staff and extended opening hours to cater for the 30,000-plus footy fans expected to move through the precinct.

Caxton Street Development Association President Sarosh Mehta said the arrival of the Dolphins would be a huge boost for the local economy.

“It’s happy days for us, it’s a real free kick,” he said.

“We’re the gateway to Lang Park (Suncorp Stadium) so we’re delighted to see another reason for people to come to the area.

“It’s an absolute winner for not just Caxton Street, but the whole precinct.”

Donny Gambaro from Brisbane institution the Gambaro Hotel said while the Dolphins were still “an unknown quantity”, the club would be welcomed to Caxton Street with open arms.

“The more the merrier,” he said.

“It’s exciting to have extra people in the precinct.

“It’s still a bit of the great unknown, but we’re opening for lunch this Sunday when we normally wouldn’t.

“Game days generally double normal business, so we’ll see what happens.”

After the history-making debut game on Sunday, the Dolphins are back at Suncorp on March 24 for a blockbuster Brisbane derby against the Broncos.

The Dolphins will also play three home games at Redcliffe’s Kayo Stadium, one on the Sunshine Coast and one in Perth.

They are doing phenomenally! Go Dolphins! The whole game is cheering for you and against the Roosters! Haha

You wanna hear something cheeky? Yes, you do.

20 mins before fulltime I went and bought a framed signed Dolphins jersey (Limited to 100). I was a bit stressed in the last 20mins!

I have a matching one from the Titans in 2007.

Anyway, the cheeky part.

I paid $995.00 plus delivery.

I looked after at fulltime and they upped the price by $500! Bloody capitalists!

Great score DH … can get 2023 Titans and Phin’s (and others) jerseys direct from factory at around A$50.

I used to go to Crushers games and was devastated when they were killed off.

One great thing about the Dolphins admission is...

**** "Tosser" Turner, a Maroons and Dolphins and QRL legend poured his own money to keep the Crushers afloat. He was Chairman during the entire existence of the club. From books I read he even mortgaged his house/boat(?). The junior fields at Redcliffe are called the **** "Tosser"Turner complex. He really was a spirit of pure Queensland passion that was a consistent force within the Maroons. He was also founder of the FOGs, former Origin Greats organisation.

I always felt that what happened with the Crushers was an incredible, hurtful wrong to such a man. And seeing the Dolphins in the NRL would have delighted the man.

Maroons follow Tosser's advice to the letter https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/maroons-follow-tossers-advice-to-the-letter-20110708-1h6mv.html

Thanks DieHard. I'm forever in awe of a man like Tosser. I was also appalled by the way the Crushers were wiped out. I enjoyed the occasional beverage at the Crushers Club (Brothers), at least a decade after they wrapped up as a force on the field.
