Titans NRLW 2024

If memory serves Kiria-Ratu served up a big pile of doo doo in the GF. Not that big of a loss
Talented kid, she’s only a teenager I think.
If we lose any halves or a hooker we will miss her. She slots in well to any loss at 6/7/9 because of Brown’s versatility.

'It's really special': Fuimaono relishing return to Titans after ankle injury

Star five-eighth Taliah Fuimaono will make her long-awaited return to club footy ahead of the Titans' Round 1 clash against the Dragons on Sunday afternoon.

After suffering an ankle injury in last year's season opener against the Cowboys, the Sky Blues representative missed the remainder of the 2023 NRLW season and had to watch her side play the decider from the sidelines.

The playmaker cannot wait to run out in the Titans colours again up against her former side in a bid to go one better after a heartbreaking grand final defeat.

"It's really special, especially this one," Fuimaono said.

"Coming back after the injury last year, I worked really hard in the off-season and it's really good to be back up here.

“We just finished an awesome pre-season with the girls, so I’m super excited leading into Round 1.

"It's been a long time; the girls are killing to play some more footy, especially myself.

"I haven't had the privilege to play a lot of footy in the last year."

Returning to footy in a big way playing in all three games in the recent Origin series, premiership glory is now front of mind for the 25-year-old, having been so close in their last campaign.

Although, the squad hasn't wanted to reflect on last year, instead looking ahead to what will be an exciting 2024 NRLW season.

"I got to travel with the team as the 18th player as I really rehabbed and tried to get myself to be an option for the girls if needed," Fuimaono said.

"I definitely felt the whole rollercoaster with the girls.

It was a disappointing finish, but in saying that, last year is in the past and we can't do anything about it, so I'm excited to see what's ahead."

Fuimaono will join Lauren Brown in the halves for their season opener at WIN Stadium on Sunday as she looks to build her combination with her fellow teammate - having previously been rivals in the State of Origin arena.

"I prefer to be on the same team as Lozzy and I’d prefer her to be kicking field goals for us than with Queensland," she joked.

"I'm really excited to get some combinations with Lozzy in the halves. I didn't get to experience that last year, so I'm really excited for that.

"I'm just really excited to play some footy with the girls.

"We've got a really good bunch and we are lucky enough to retain most of the players from last year."

Breayley-Nati was the game's inaugural NRLW player of the year in 2018, and has plenty of big game experience having also won a premiership with the Broncos in that same season. The 33-year-old brings that as a forward pack leader from dummy-half and is wanting to back-up one of her career best seasons in 2023.

Karina Brown

Returning to the NRLW after playing her part in Queensland's Origin series victory, she is also bolstered by her long-term commitment with the Titans to 2027, hoping to add another NRLW title to her personal trophy cabinet after also winning a ring with the Broncos in 2020.

Taliah Fuimaono

fuimaonot-240713_cd_0926-scotts-shotz.jpg

The Kiwi international is one for the most experienced players in the Titans side at just 29 years of age and brings plenty of energy to the side as captain and recently extended her tenure on the Gold Coast until 2026. Good first half although the ref is a shocker and should of been ahead by at least another try, big breeze at the titans back in the second half, loz brown kicking game has been exceptional

All about that Bass: Titans down Dragons in opener

The Titans' quest to go one better than last year's runner-up finish is off to a perfect start after they powered past the Dragons 18-10 on Sunday afternoon.

Propelled by a hat-trick of tries from winger Emily Bass, the Titans dominated the encounter at WIN Stadium, enjoying the lion's share of possession and controlling field position well on the back of the stellar kicking game of Lauren Brown.

The Maroons playmaker caused major issues for the opposing back three with her towering bombs, in addition to forcing a pair of dropouts and nailing her long-range tactical game.

Also outstanding was fullback Evania Pelite, who came up with some telling defensive interventions, carried the ball for 170 metres and scored a try.

Up 10-0 at the break, the Titans raced out of the sheds for the second half and added another to give themselves some breathing room and take the punch out of the home crowd.

Karyn Murphy's side had earlier made a roaring start with a pair of nearly identical four-pointers from Bass, which saw former Dragon Shaylee Bent provide the final pass for her winger to go over untouched.
A clever one-two movement between Brown and Pelite saw the latter fly through a gap from close range early in the second period, before the hosts finally got on the board through Bobbi Law.

But it was quickly cancelled out by Bass' third with 20 to go.

Teagan Berry got another back with 11 to play – crossing for her ninth try in five games against the Titans – but it was too late to im

Match Snapshot
  • The Gold Coast broke 38 tackles in the win and completed 81 percent of their sets.
  • After scoring just six tries in her 11 career games prior, Titans wing Emily Bass scored three in the space of 50 minutes on Sunday afternoon.
  • Titans winger Karina Brown lasted only 12 minutes before being forced from the field with a calf injury.
  • The Titans now have two wins and a loss at WIN Stadium.
  • Dragons fullback Teagan Berry has scored nine tries in five games against the Titans.

Play of the Game
A heads-up play from two of the Titans' top performers to all but put the game away.
Evania Pelite linked with her playmaker Lauren Brown from dummy-half, before Brown passed back inside and caught the Dragons defence over chasing, leaving Pelite to go over for an easy try.

I have my concerns about the depth
But that was nice
Fingers crossed we get luck with injuries

In some trouble already losing Karina Brown with a calf and not having Mino-Sinipati.

Our depth is probably better experience wise in league/union, The girls this year are more proven professionally then what we had last year at the time for who came in. Sims was a union/7's player for QLD and had a good year in BMD, Grey has all the attributes to be a really good back at any spot and jumped everyone and 19, Lailani is basically Sinapati who can play anywhere and was Roosters u19s best back but also been in our system.

Grey is the interesting one, She's close to Chapman athletically and size wise, could be really good and has jumped a lot of players to be 18th already after 2 games of league ever, Was getting picked in rep teams with Loloseio (the sister of Noah.)

Kolc is quality.

I’m guessing Grey will debut this week on the wing in place of Karina Brown.

I am sure the Titans are well aware of her but what an athelete is Maddison Levi of the Australian 7's. She lives on the Gold Coast and is the highest try scorer in Olympic history and still has more games to go. A Jamie Chapman clone and only 22 and her team mate sister is 20. Need to get a package deal for these 2 sisters

The Levi sisters are actually both on the GC Suns AFLW list and I believe they both plan to play for the Suns whenever they decide to no longer play 7s Union.

But no argument from me, theyd be superb Titans players too for sure.

Canfield a fractured thumb. That’s 4-6 weeks. The depth test is starting already.
Canfield is a loss.
