2025 Squad, Signings and Rumours Thread

Great to see him extend his stay. unsure what role he plays going forward however. He’s the perfect modern day 13 but I have a hunch that the club will continue to play Tino at 13 and Randall rotating with Verrills at 9/14

I don’t think Verrills stays long term and Randy becomes our 80 min hooker. Des has always preferred a tackle bot style hooker and that doesn’t fit Verrills’ strengths.

Happy to see Randall stay with us.

Gold Coast's Mr Consistent extends to become long-term Titan

Versatile forward Chris Randall will remain a Titan for a further three seasons, extending his time on the Gold Coast until the end of 2027.

Joining the club from the Knights in 2023, the 28-year-old has taken his opportunity with both hands, becoming a staple of the Coast forward pack as one of three Titans to play every game in 2024.

Labelled a modern-day ‘Mr Fix It’ with his ability to play anywhere in the frontline, Randall has quickly become a fan favourite, advancing his career to now 74 NRL appearances which has included 45 at the Titans in only two years.

One of the fittest in the club having been one of the Coast’s top pre-season performers, Randall joined the club’s leadership group in 2024 and has relished as a consistent starter in his fourth season of first grade.

"I’ve really enjoyed my time here on the Gold Coast and I’m thrilled to be remaining a Titan until the end of 2027," he said.

"I took a chance moving up here at the end of 2022 and it’s really paid off. It’s a great place to raise my young family and I have full belief that we can bring success to the Coast in the next few years.

"I’ve really enjoyed playing under Des and the boys, and I’m really excited for what’s to come with what we’re building here at the Titans."

Randy would've been on a pretty small wage since he re-signed when he was still a back up 9 and it's his chance for a big contract and he's earned it.

This was a pretty interesting read involving the cap and I'm probably completely misunderstanding it but Randall for example could've been on 250k next year but that doesn't really matter if the salary cap auditors decide he's worth 400k for what he did in 2024 as a constant starter and the average contract around the league for a forward starter at his level, Say it's 400k, That comes of the cap no matter even if he still just gets 250k.

It's the same for a development player on 80k as the min, If they play 20 games that contract the next year gets valued at 140k no matter what as it's 3k a game added value. Guys like Jojo, Kini and Pahulus contracts will be valued higher on the cap then what I'd assume they are on so you kind of have to upgrade them to a point anyway, Kini becoming a rep player and starter, He's going to be valued pretty highly compared to this year. Goes back to the "list cloggers" and why they are kind of needed, any NRL game played their value goes up so having 3 or so guys on 135k contracts that you know won't jump a lot in value is needed.

A player’s actual value against the cap is only greater than their nominal value if their actual remuneration involves a variable like match payments, performance bonuses. Most of the time matchies are only paid to Dev players at best.

But the salary cap auditor doesn’t have discretion to nominate a value for a player that’s different to their registered contract, or actual remuneration, and use that against the cap. I think that bit might’ve been misunderstood but I blame the nrl website for probably explaining it poorly lol

Reimis Smith is still #1 target for me, and like the Tui shout MT.. Also, not sure how the Wahs view Rocco Berry or Leiataua, but i've got a hunch Adam Pompey could become available at some stage. Do I think he's Stephen Crichton? obviously not, and not as good as Reimis but he's safer than Brian Kelly is for the most part and is just a much bigger body out there. Also at 26 he's sort of prime age to move elsewhere and take another step in his career. Again, not sure how the Wahs view him, but with the other two and RTS at centre someone will be frequenting the Vulcans 13, and if Pompey would be available he could be a low-cost option that can play centres or wing and kick goals, possibly in an Erin Clark trade even.
