Junior Development

The number of Queensland juniors playing in the NSWRL U21 competition is simply staggering, bring on a National U21 competition so that some/many can stay at home. This will in time also help with the standard of the GCRL and NRRRL competitions.
 
Great to see that 8 clubs are set to play in the 2025 GCRL U18 Division One competiton being the Tugun Seahawks, Runaway Bay Seagulls, Cummumbin Eagles, Southport Tigers, Coomera Cutters, Beaudesert Kingfishers, Burleigh Bears and Helensvale Hornets.
 
Round Two of the 2025 U19 MM Cup competition saw Jakequan Roberts-Walsh start on the right wing for the Ipswich Jets against the Sunshine Coast Falcons with Jakequan Roberts-Walsh scoring a great solo try in the 56th minute when after receiving the ball to the right of the play the ball in the centre of the field and twenty eight metres from his own try line, Jakequan Roberts-Walsh ran to his right and after beating one defender Jakequan Roberts-Walsh got on the outside of his opposing winger and then outpaced three cover defenders as he raced down the right touchline to score a great try in the right corner.

The 18th minute saw Jakequan Roberts-Walsh race down the right touchline to make a line break from twenty six to within six metres of the try line after taking on his opposing winger on the outside with Jakequan Roberts-Walsh doing well to get a pass inside just prior to being tackled over the touchline.

In just the 2nd minute of the match Jakequan Roberts-Walsh did well to take a high Sunshine Coast bomb on the full just in front of two defenders twenty metres from his own try line. Then in the 40th minute after taking a Falcons kick-off on the first bounce Jakequan Roberts-Walsh was able to get the ball out to the twenty metre mark.
 
Round Two of the 2025 U19 MM Cup competition saw Bobby Smith start in the front row for the Burleigh Bears against the Norths Devils with Bobby Smith returning the opening kick-off to the nineteen metre mark. Bobby Smith also took the fourth hit-up of the match from the right of the play the ball to run from two metres inside his half to eight metres into the Devils.

In his second stint on the field in the 60th minute Bobby Smith, from the right of the play the ball Bobby Smith produced his best run of the match with a great charge that saw him break a tackle as he surged from forty to twenty metres from the try line. Additionally in the 67th minute from the left of the play the ball Bobby Smith charged through the centre of the field from twenty to forty metres from the try line after running straight over the top of one defender.
 
Tavake Tau’a’alo came off the bench to operate in the front row in the 27th minute of Round Two of the MM Cup for the Burleigh Bears against the Norths Devils and in the 31st minute Tavake Tau’a’alo’s effort from the left of the play the ball saw him break a tackle as he ran from thirty to forty three metres from his try line.

From the left of the play the ball in the 53rd minute Tavake Tau’a’alo charged through the centre of the field to get from five metres inside his half to twelve metres inside the Devils with Tavake Tau’a’alo then getting an off-load away. Then in the 67th minute from the left of the play the ball and through the centre of the field once again Tavake Tau’a’alo was able run the ball from ten to twenty one metres away from the try line.

Tavake Tau’a’alo produced a big defensive hit in the 36th minute on the Norths No. 16 from the Devils second half kick-off return forcing a knock on just ten metres from the try line.
 
Good to see Ethan Alcorn named as the 18th player for the Northern Rivers Titans U18 Laurie Daley Cup side in Round Five on Sunday against the Northern Tigers.

The PBC SHS half/five eight is a talented player.
 
Cruz Dangerfield started at right second row for the Tweed Heads Seagulls in Round Two of the 2025 MM Cup against the Souths Logan Magpies with Cruz Dangerfield scoring in the 37th minute twelve metres to the right of the goal posts by way of a hard straight six metre charge off a short ball from his left from Zane Harrison.

Cruz Dangerfield also recorded a try assist in the 48th minute when after being put into space by Zane Harrison once again Cruz Dangerfield charged from eighteen to six metres from the try line, Cruz Dangerfield beat the Souths Logan fullback before getting an off-load away to his left to Ray Puru who scored twelve metres in from the right corner post.

Even though they are still U18 eligible in 2025 Lachlan Stewart and Noah Kemister are training with the Tweed Coast Raiders NRRRL FIrst Grade squad.
 
Josh Donovan who is currently starting on the wing for the Tweed Heads Seagulls MM Cup side will play for the Lower Clarence Magpies in the NRRRL First Grade competition when the MM Cup is completed.
 
Former Canberra Raiders Pathways and Wagga Kangaroo's fullback Nate Suckling has been named in the 2025 Lismore Dioscean School Boy Rugby League U15 representative side out of Xavier Catholic College Ballina.
 
2024 U14 Far North Coast representative rugby No. 10 Jack Solman has been named on the wing in the 2025 Lismore Dioscean School Boy Rugby League U15 representative side out of Xavier Catholic College Ballina.
 
Jesse Cooper who is currently starring for the Northern Rivers Titans U16 Andrew Johns Cup side was recently selected in the Northern Eagles U16 Representative Touch side.
 
In early March 2025 Kyron Nipperess was selected at fullback in the 2025 Lismore Diocesan School Boy Rugby League Representative side out of McAuley Catholic College Grafton.
 
Kwinn Wolf returns on the bench tomorrow after a head knock for the Northern Rivers Titans U18 Laurie Daley Cup side in their Round FIve match against the Northern Tigers.
 
In early March 2025 Luke Barnett was selected in the centres in the 2025 Lismore Diocesan School Boy Rugby League Representative side out of St John’s College Woodlawn.
 
Nixon O’Connor was named to start off the bench for the Northern Rivers Titans in Round Four of the U16 Andrew Johns Cup against the Central Coast Roosters however a late change saw Nixon O’Connor start in the front row and made the opening hit-up of the match out to the twenty one metre mark.

In the 2nd minute from the right of the play the ball and forty five metres from the try line Nixon O’Connor was able to get the ball to within thirty three metres of the try line. Then in the 7th minute also from the right of the play the ball Nixon O’Connor made ten metres from his own twenty metre mark and a tackle later from the left of the play the ball Nixon O’Connor ran from twenty one to thirty three metres from the try line.

From the left of the play the ball once again in the 14th minute Nixon O’Connor promoted the ball from ten to twenty two metres from the try line. Then in his second stint on the field in the 47th minute Nixon O’Connor charged onto the field to the left of the dummy half from the halfway to thirty six metres from the try line and then got a right arm off-load away with his back to his try line to Jaylon Russell who made eighteen metres.

In the 50th minute after running onto the ball to the left of the dummy half Nixon O’Connor cut off his right foot to target the area behind the markers and after breaking a tackle carried the ball from thirty six to nineteen metres from the try line. Nixon O’Connor then rounded out a huge match in the 54th minute with a charge from the right of the play the ball to get from fifteen to thirty metres from the try line with more than 75% of the metres gained being post contact.
 
Julean Woods was back on the right wing for the Northern Rivers Titans in Round Four of the U16 Andrew Johns Cup against the Central Coast Roosters and in the 32nd minute Julean Woods was positioned well when a Roosters penalty kick for touch fell short with Julean Woods taking the kick on the full fifteen metres from his own try line on the right touchline and return the ball to the twenty seven metre mark.
